Enemy of the Music Business

by: Napalm Death

Release Date September 25, 2000
The latter years of Napalm Death at Earache in the mid-late 90's saw the band develop into a mature, slick, mid-pace death metal band - mid-tempo grooving was in and the high-speed insanity of the bands early days was emphatically out - in short they seemed like a band whose youthful vigour had gone and who had settled into middle-age.
Thankfully two incidents occured which casued Napalm Death to dust of the cobwebs and rediscover the fact that they used to be a grindcore band - firstly they recorded the excellent 'Leaders Not Followers' cover EP which took them back to their early influences, and secondly a band called Nasum emerged playing the very style of hyper-speed grindcore that Napalm had drifted so far from. The resulting 'Enemy ... Read More:

Smear Campaign

by: Napalm Death

Release Date September 18, 2006
Some will say that with napalm death that you know what you are gonna get,in some instances that is true, the word brutal is laced through all their prior 12 studio albums and that doesnt leave this new release, however when one considers that their debut album 'scum' was filled with tracks under a minute long and how they ditched that after 2 albums then there is a change for you, skip forward to 'diatribes' and you get a more accessible sounding napalm death and then with 'the code is red...' you got the band introducing guest singers so the band like to keep people guessing, with latest release 'smear campaign' the gloves are off as this is a fierce album that contains backing shriek screaming that would frighten any screamcore singer, and thats only the backing ... From Enslavement to Obliteration

by: Napalm Death

Release Date September 01, 1999
This band are like nothing you have ever heard before. A mental mix of grinding maddness. Some say, what are the 5 second songs all about, this is not music. Well i've got news for you. Napalm Death make some of the heaviest and original metal ever put onto disk. The short tracks are bursts of sheer hatred and power. It's not really what they say, although the lyrics are amazing, but how they say it and this leaves you gasping for air. After listening to this disk you just feel as if someone has just switched on a jet engine right in your face. You dont quite know what to make of it, but you know that it was one of the most intense experiences you have ever had. With all the crap out there these days, if you have not yet had the pleasure of any death\grind\gore bands, ... Read More:

Fear Emptiness Despair

by: Napalm Death

Release Date September 01, 1999
Genuinely, I mean that. This album is an absolute corker and the chap who stated that it was a 'failed experiment' clearly doesn't understand the band or the genre. Maybe he read somewhere that Napalm Death had a 'slump' and was trying to be clever with his review. Let me tell you, that comment was never levelled at this record. In fact, this is Napalm Death at their absolute peak and like the other 5 Star reviewer, I think this is their best album by a country mile.
Don't forget, this is the album which received a 5K review in Kerrang and got a 5 Star review in Raw (if anyone remembers that fine magazine!) upon its release.
So why is this such a great album??? - Firstly, its monsterously heavy, but it never descends into a noisy mess.
Secondly, the grooves ... Read More:

Scum

by: Napalm Death

Release Date September 01, 1999
Screaming out of the hardcore punk scene like a train with no breaks, Napalm Death was the band that detonated the warhead we call 'extreme metal' today.
I don't actually like the term "extreme metal", as it incorporates plenty of acts who really don't deserve the honour of being called "a bit different", let alone "EXTREME!!!!!" But whewn you listen to 'Scum' there is no other term to describe it. Maybe "mentally disturbing", but thats about it.
The first riff of "Multi National Corporations" is just so catchy and monsterous, its is no hard task to hear how the fledgling harder metal bands of the time took the baton and ran with it after Scum's release.
Napalm are famous for having more members than an American football team. And the line ups to this debut started the ... Read More:

Leaders Not Followers Vol.1

by: Napalm Death

Release Date November 01, 1999
This CD is an excellent filler, and gives an ideal insight into the band members lives as tape-traders. I'm not usually a hardcore fan, but Politicians and Nazi Punks are both excellent here. The track by Slaughter showcases how funny they were, and how innovative they were at the same time. The Pentagram track makes you wonder why you can't find an album by them anywhere, it's so good. Personally I'm a big fan of Death's and this shows the band in their formative stages, with an excellently done song again, simple but effective. I love Repulsion too, and Maggots In Your Coffin is as good a cover as Horrified was, when done by Mortician, but you can actually hear it this time!

Overall a good chance to hear what Napalm like, and how good they are at covers...

Order of the Leech

by: Napalm Death

Release Date November 04, 2002
the napalm death style and formula has more or less stayed the same over the years, the band havent changed their sound to impress or make new fans, each album has a more or less identical blueprint from any other napalm death album, however what we have here on order of the leech is the trademark riffs and carnage that can leave a herd of elephants on their backsides, this was the first napalm death album i heard and i was blown away by the fury and intensity that doesnt relent, they offer no remorse in their mission of leaving other metal acts eating their dust, songs like the icing on the hate, out of sight ,out of mind are particular highlights, napalm death have never thrown in nice clean vocals on a chorus to gain new praise but they dont need too, napalm death wont suit all metal lovers but those ... napalm know the score, they know metal, they know grind.they know what we the fans want, this is a great album,it isnt a return to form as they never left their excellent form, this album wont suit everyone,i guess it is a bit more commercial than enemy of the music business but it aint what your granny will want to hear and thats why napalm death still have it and you should have this

Diatribes

by: Napalm Death

Release Date May 12, 2008
Napalm's previous album `Fear Emptiness Despair' had already shown the writing on the wall, with the band cutting out huge swathes of their usual manic grindcore style for mid-tempo grooves. With `Diatribes' Napalm take the process a stage further - this album is virtually devoid of the high-speed blastbeats that made the bands name, with the emphasis now on catchy grooves. On the plus side the album does boast a better production than `Fear Emptiness Despair' and the more simplistic song-writing does make this a more catchy proposition. The band must also be applauded for it's willingness to experiment, with speaking (and at times almost rapping) vocals and some Godflesh-style moody slower songs. Ultimately however what seemed cutting edge and experimental in 1995 now seems a little dated, with ... Read More:
