This Was Supposed to Be the Future

by: Nextmen

Release Date June 11, 2007
Didnt know this was out in the shops, came across it in my local HMV, ive always been a huge Nextmen fan for years so naturaly reached for my wallet whilst walking to the check out with it in hand...

Got home and stuck it on and was impressed right from the 1st intro to track 1.. The Nextmen have always been tight producers, but this is the most solid, neatly produced album to date from them - everything, and i do mean EVERYTHING is so fresh and on point throughout the CD.

The beats are impressive, slightly different from their earlier outings, opting for a healthy mix of super chilled out beats, reggae, soul, a little contemporary blues thrown in, some sexy eligent jazz trumpet rifts to end some tracks.. A lot of the ... Read More:

Personal Golf Instructions from Driver Thru Putter

by: The Nextmen

Release Date August 09, 2004
The Nextmen are superb at playing funky crowd-pleasing tunes (well worth seeing them live) and this album provides a splendid blend of 70's funk and soul, hip hop, rap, reggae and even a bit of recent pop. It flows seamlessly and would make an excellent party soundtrack. Stick it on to get everyone dancing. If you like the kind of thing Mr Scruff and David Holmes play when DJing, this album is very similar if somewhat more upbeat.

Blunted in the Backroom: Mixed By the Nextmen

by: Nextmen

Release Date September 05, 2005
This mix displays a broad, varied knowledge of Reggae. It's excellent. The nextmen add a distinct HipHop feel to the proceedings and it's put together fantastically, as you would expect. If you like your Reggae and Dancehall carefully chosen and really well mixed then this is for you.

Amongst the Madness

Release Date September 01, 2000
as far as uk hip hop goes this album is not up there with the greats .. ie Braintax.

it feels to me that is lacking any realy punch, the songs congeal into one mass of averageness at best.

i was very disappointed upon purchasing this having read the other reviews raving how good it is :S

maybe i will choose more carefully in future whose advice i listen too. tbh 2 stars is generous but i save 1 star for ppl like the spice girls , soo about says it all really

Get Over It

by: Nextmen

Release Date July 28, 2003
This was a disappointment. THe remix album 'That's What Friend's Are For' is by far the best --- much more varied, tighter and original than this. Afterward, their first 'Amongst The Madness' ranks highly, but this album is weak and is full of tracks that just don't cut it. On the lame tip, sorry Nextmen, but you guys can do much better. The same samples are often used as in their first and in the same way with the same techniques employed. 'Samemen'? Sure they'd hate to be accused of this. Look into purchasing the others first.

I also bought this album based on the cover art, having been introduced to the nextmen before I went out on a limb and was really suprised great album and I am still listening to it today and have since purchased a couple of the other albums, but this is my favourite so far.
