There is no doubt that Nigel Ogden is good organist. However, he needs a fairly big organ for some of his arrangements and this Compton at The Plaza, Stockport isn't. It is an immense achievement of the Stockport Plaza Trust to maintain the organ in its original form, but it does sound very "thin".
Of the 27 tracks on this CD with a film theme, only Colonel Bogey sounds reasonable, with an excellent working of the organ's drums (solo and repeat) into the arrangement. Everything else, I am sorry to say, leaves me wanting to add some decent ranks to colour the sound. Sorry Nigel and the SPT, but I will not be rushing to hear the organ on my next visit to the area.
