Keeps-you-smiling music! One of the best voices that ever graced the music business. My 17 year old thinks she's as amazing as I do.

Amazing album from an amazing singer.
Perfect relaxing music. Various live recordings add spice to this double disc set and prove how talented a singer Nina Simone really was. Both discs are worth putting on repeat.
Release Date February 04, 2008
Some 66 minutes of music, 25 tracks of mainly lesser known material- though only two are completely unreleased.
Double CD of Nina's work from arguably her most creative years with RCA. Nina had always been incredibly diverse as an artist and her audience reflected this; being acclaimed by the likes of Frank Sinatra and the Beatniks of Greenwich Village. Any `Ninaologist' who is determined to get beyond the countless compilation CD s and the classic re-issues will grab this as a matter of course. But for anyone who is hesitating?
The answer will be a definite yes! Buy It! This release shows Nina Simone at her most interesting, diving into the chaos of the USA in an era defined by rising Black Consciousness, Anti ... Read More:

I have lived with the original cd since its 1993 release. It was always a worthy addition to her repertoire, the lush settings remind me of Billie Holliday's Lady in Satin. I love the interpretations of the 3 Rod McKuen songs very mature and insightful. In addition, there are fine reworkings of 2 Simone classics "If I should lose you" and "Just say I love him". I enjoyed the re-working of "Papa can you hear me" from the Yentl film soundtrack; Nina personalised the song to give an insight into her relationship with her own father. Finally, I love the humour of her composition "Marry me" - a great ending to the original recording.
We then come to the 7 cuts tracks that did not make the original CD. 2 tracks "Basball boogie" and "The times they ... Read More:

Nina Simone was displaced by the mid-1970's,both as an artist and a poltical activist: Rejecting the USA, and living in Liberia, then Europe, spending years without management or agent, sometimes without a record deal, 1977 -1978 saw Nina at her lowest ebb. Then Jazz label CTI agreed a one off deal: Prime studio musicians, backing singers were drafted in. The result was this 1978 album 'Baltimore'. Even the CD sleeve notes concede that Nina didn't like the final result and later she claimed to have had no choice of the songs that were selected. Some fans however rate this release highly. Sadly the over-production -particularly the orchestral overdubs added later to the original work- nearly stifles the whole release.
Randy Newman's `Baltimore' opens ... Read More:

`The Future us Unwritten' is Julian Temple's documentary film about the late great Joe strummer and is of `The Filth and the Fury' rather than `The Great Rock'N'Roll Swindle' template. The Soundtrack album also serves to tell the story of Joe mixing his own songs with the songs that inspired him and linking it all together with sound bites of Joe from various interviews and the links he made as a DJ for the BBC World Service with his occasional show `London Calling'.
Joe's own cannon is well represented here with The 101ers (Joe's first recording band) `Keys to your Heart' and early Clash with previously un-released demo versions of `White Riot' and `I'm So Bored with the USA'. The Clash's reggae influence is showcased with the single `Armagideon Time' ... Read More:

Very much agree with the previous reviewer. The version of "My Baby Just Cares For Me" on this CD is not the well-known, uplifting, bouncy version we all know and love, but an inferior version. Disappointing.
Release Date February 26, 2007
Messing with old tracks to bring them up to date for the next generation can sometimes go a bit off the wall but these gentle dancey new mixes of some of Nina Simones's best work really do bring her unique voice up to todays standards without that feeling of that it really shouldn't have been tried in the first place.
If you like Nina Simone or want an introduction to her bucketloads of back material then this is the perfect introduction for a first time listener to go and explore the actual original songs and albums from.
Uplifting and full of true soul. These mixes work so well as a group. The new mixes really compliment Ninas voice to the ears of a new generation and it works so well. If you just want to feel summery and nice then this is the one to put on for ... Read More:
