I saw Nitin play in Bristol in early November 2008 and he gave the best performance of the 5 times I have seen him. A delicate and sensitive gig, with Nitin mainly playing acoustic guitar, accompanied by some sublime cello playing and indian flute and tabla playing - all mixed with dreamy singing. This album reflects all that. A true concept album - a 45 minute journey through life today. Such a wide variety of influnces - how wrong the last reviewer is! This is a great Nitin album, and I've loved him from the start. Turn it on, lie back on the sofa and let yourself drift away.

I've never reviewed an album on Amazon before, but I have to just stop by and echo the comments of almost everyone else here.... A superb album, where melodic piano notes intertwine beautifully with Indian tabla and Spanish guitar, underpinned by a drum- and- bassy line.
Yes Sawhney does put across a strong political message throughout the album, but I feel the soundbites really add something to an already excellent piece of work.
Tracks 1,2,5,& 7 are particular favourites of mine.

The concept of travelling the world and creating an album based on various cultures is always going to be a tough thing to complete. All I can say is that Nitin Sawhney has pulled off this mountain of a project with breathtaking results.
The 15 tracks of 'Prophesy' display a highly interesting and diverse body of work, from a man with a real passion to produce something amazing. From the uplifting opening 'sunset' Sawhney creates a wonderful soundscape through chilled out beats, guitar, Tabla drums and moving orchestral touches, it's an atmosphere followed equally by 'Nothing' string melodies conjure up amazing sci-fi vista's and rousing vocals create an ethereal world. Acquired dreams is an early highlight and takes the tone ... Read More:

this is my second Nitin CD having started with Prophecy back in 2001 which I received courtesy of Pete Waddingham at V2 Records A&R and played a lot on my local radio stations...it's truly lamentable that I didn't get any of his other work until now, 6 years later. This is a different album indeed to Prophecy and a wealth again of guest vocalists. I was transported back to my fave New Orleans by the snappy blues intro to Dead Man then smiley and amazed at the smooth switch to eastern indian vocals and themes within a 'blues' track.. a classic example of the blending of genres which Nitin presents so well. This is followed up by the recited raga like Rag Doll then launches into the wonderful swirl of indian faux 'celtic' orchestrations of Mausam, reminiscent ... Read More:

After hearing the rich variety of musics and experiences in other Sawhney albums, there is nothing here at all. Extremely bland. Even the words don't say anything. The tapestry was so rich before, but this... It's just nothing.
Release Date April 23, 2007
I have most of the tracks on this album independently, and can say they are excellent choices, especially Teardrop. I'd love to hear a collaboration between Nitin Sawney and Elizabeth Frazer ~ please?
Having seen Nitin on stage several times, I'm delighted to find out that he has excellent taste and I intend to look up the other tracks as there's a few that I've never heard or even heard of.
If you're not already familiar, this would be a great place to start since he's included some of his own music ~ you'll soon be buying more as it's always uplifting.
Happy listening!

Nitin Sawhney was asked to release a set of tunes for the Fabric Live compilation to reflect british asian contemporary music today and what a fabulous choice he's made in the artists and tracks chosen for Fabric Live 15. This is a great dance album full of the best tunes in the contemporary asian underground/clubbing scenen today. I was lucky enough to attend the launch of this at Fabric in April 2004 - what a great party it was! Nitin is a great representation of asian cool and asian fusion. My favourite track on this album has to be track 12 - Visionary Underground - Freedom a great mix of hard and calssical beats making one of the best dance tunes I have heard for a long time! Well done to Fabric and Nitin for a great album!
