This recorded lecture presents the attacks of 9/11 in the context of Amercian Imperialism since 1945. Chomsky is his usual erudite self (with the mundane voice suprising for the greatest living professor of linguistics) and presents some fascinating and totally neglected endevours of the U.S.A alongside other terrorist acts which the U.S condemns and shows that they are basically indestiguishable. The U.S.A is shown to be a terrorist state by its own definition and its leaders are in breach of the Geneva convention and are therefore war criminals. Since the U.S.A is undermining the Geneva convention by these breaches they are puting the whole world at great risk of descending into further chaos.
Its another case of powerful states ... Read More:

It is insightful and engageing. I think you would benefit from first watching Fog of War and then listening to this CD. The first CD is 57 mins long and the second is about 55mins. This Chomsky at his best. A wide selection of information is covered but with a narrative - Bush is a war criminal. I think Blair gets off very lightly again but you can't have it all - I think that may well take another few CD's to cover.
Talks about WW2, Vietnam, Killings in South America, Iraq and so much more.
Interviewed by David Barsamian who in his self is very intresting too - much more than 'just' a interviewer. I guess it is more of a conversation between the two than a standard interview.

I really like this recording after stumbling across it while browsing. It's a clever analysis of the way busines, as the world's most powerful interest group, undermines democracy. The quote from Dewey that "government is the shadow cast by business on society" gives you an idea.
My only niggle is as an academic piece of work I'd like the packaging to give the references so you can follow stuff up for yourself.

I can't believe my luck in finding this CD. Chomsky sticks the knife into Bill Clinton, shortly before Dubya's two terms. I personally think Chomsky is just another politician, and between the realpolitik of pleasing his followers, and his dogma, he has little time left to seek any realistic perspectives or present realistic solutions.
This CD is evidence of his part in the factionalisation of the left (which is why Bush kept power for so long). And I am always delighted to find evidence to support my prejudices.
