One for the die hards here really. 2 new songs, neither of which are particularly great, a re-recorded version of the title track from their brilliant debut and a Celtic Frost cover song. The Frost song sounds so similar to the original as to be fairly worthless...you`d just as well put it on instead!
Overall I can`t wholeheartedly recommend this but it is pretty cheap.

Obituary are simply the greatest Death Metal band in history. Roadrunner recording artist all the way from Tampa, Florida! John Tardy's vocals ofcourse scare and (possibly and believably) scar their fans and listeners, RR have made a good choice signing these, Death Metal GODS!
Let's talk about the songs and Obituary's history, hmmm??
Obituary went as far back as 1984 when John and Donald Tardy were jamming with their friends, Trevor Peres and Allen West, slashing their teeth in all clubs and studios that were available in Tampa. Then a couple years later, Obituary saw their persistence pay with their debut, genre-defining, SLOWLY WE ROT. SLOWLY WE ROT was released in 1989. It's fair to say that the band have used alot ... I was a roadrunner/tampa/scott burns/earache/sweeden/entombed fan when the death metal/grind-core scene was at a peak in 1991. I became a shoegaze/electronica type fan around 1992, and have not been a metal fan since, but if I had to make a top 10 albums of all time chart, this album would be right up there, possibly in 3rd place. I honestly believe that this is one of the best pieces of music ever recorded. Nu-Skool Slip-Knot and Ukranian-suite-pea-Gay fans will never get this, but "cause of death", in my mind is better than "reign in blood". This album still gets me hyped like no other. If you are old enough to remember this album and don't aready have it, buy it. If you are into limp bizkit and slip-knot, Buy this album and reign in blood ... Read More:

What is there to say. If you have heard Obituary before, then you know what to expect (to a degree). If you haven't and are considering trying them out, then do so right now! These boys know the meaning of death metal and execute it to perfection time and again.
This two from the vault version is great because you get two doses of Obituary in one foul swoop. As for the content, lets just say that John Tardy has the ability to churn out the most powerful vocals of any metal group, accompanied by suitably hideous guttural noises which compliment this type of power. Also, the sound of the guitars is totally evil, how Allan West manages to create such melodic yet gut wrenching riffs and solos is beyond me! And the drums, well you need to be ... Read More:

Obituary split in 1997,for differing reasons and reformed in 2003 and this 2005 is the fruit of that toil,an album that blends their earlier faster, death metal stylings with their slower, more accessible sounds that featured in their last album before they split in 1997.
Vocalist John Tardy always had a lower death growl than the majority of death frontmen and here his vocals are, while angry, are very far removed from corpsegrinder of cannibal corpse for example, they are still death vocals but not that harsh so there will always be a window of opportunity for obituary to pick up a few new fans along the way.
The album is 34 minutes long so the average song is just over 3 minutes so thats a great idea, bands like dying fetus can just outstay their ... Read More:

death metal is a genre i dont love with all my heart,i do own some classics in the genre and this is claerly one of the better ones, the heaviness is evident, the groovy riffs can send me flying across the room, the album is more focused on being heavy than being technical and thats obituarys strength, they are as heavy as they come, this is a vital debut that never compromises of relents, album opener internal bleeding sets the tone for an album that wants to shock with lyrical content and the sheer brutality of it all, with most obituary albums melody isnt always apparent but its there, but its still very enjoyable to listen too, john tardys vocals are as immense as they come and they really act as another instrument adding to the bands undisputed heaviness, this is a classic ... I seem to be in a rather small minority, but this is my favourite Obituary album.
The secret lies in structure - of the songs themselves and of the album as a whole. Tardy (John) sounds as agonised and unintelligible as he ever did on previous releases, and the guitar is equally heavy (although perhaps lacking a bit of dirt). The difference is that the songs seem to go somewhere. Whereas previous albums (to my humble ear) were a load of great ideas joined randomly in a line, the songs here are just that - songs!
Settled mostly in the slow-to-mid tempo range, the album truly gives the impression that the band is constantly tormented by nightmares, the dog has eaten all their money and food, and that their dark world is bereft of any hope or light of any kind.

Having peaked with their 2nd album ‘Cause of Death’ Obituary have spent the rest of their career releasing albums that just come up short of their past glories. The bands 3rd album ‘The End Complete’ is pretty much sonically identical to the last album, with only the slightly more punchy drum sound separating the two, so inevitably the album suffers a little from failing to take the band anywhere new, though to be fair to them this album is probably the closest they ever came to equalling the mighty ‘Cause of Death’, and still easily warrants a five star rating in it’s own right. There are no real fillers on the album, and some of the riffs rank amongst the best they have ever come up with (such as the lurching stop start finale of ... Read More:

With the addition of samples and a move away from fantasy horror imagery on their previous album ‘World Demise’ Obituary looked to be finally starting to develop as a band, but 5th studio album ‘Back From The Dead’ sees them revert back to the same old Obituary formula. This isn’t to say this is a bad album: opening track ‘Threatening Skies’ is a storming up-tempo onslaught while the rest of the album contains some fine songs mining Obituary’s trademark heaviness, the only problem is by once more going over familiar ground the album can sound rather formulaic, with a lot of the riffs sounding like variations on older Obituary songs. The only track on the album that offers anything new is the bizarre rap-remix Bullituary, though ... Read More:
