I hold this album close to my heart. It dosen't get a listen often but It holds a lot of memories for me from when I was but a youth. I used to listen to three albums religiously around 1997 and this was one of them. It is, in my opinion one of the best popular British albums of the nineties and certainly my favourite which gained mainstrem success.
The thing about this album that sets it apart from it's contemporaries at the time (Oasis, Blur, Stereophonics, Reef etc.) is the arrangements and musicianship. Whilst Oasis and Blur were duking it out and producing very bland stuff OCS were just doing what they do. I can imagine Oasis and Blur in massive arenas and sold out world tours but when I listen to OCS I picture them in a smoky ... Read More:

I recently saw Ocean Colour Scene live and had forgotten just how much I loved them when they were at the height of their fame. So when I bought this album I wasn't disappointed - this is a fantastic album full of great tracks which will make you wonder why they disappeared off the scene when other crap bands churn out the same old rubbish year after year, never seeming to lose their popularity. Brilliant!!
Release Date August 13, 2007
I've shelled out so much money on OCS products, mostly chart CDs, imports, rare editions, limited editions etc...
...only to be faced with a 'Collections' CD just a few years after a Greatest Hits CD and with no reason or rhyme behind which songs have been picked.
This CD is nothing but a selfish money spinner from my favourite band ever and it makes me feel a bit ashamed and a lot let down to see it. The band know their money and fame comes from their die hard fans so to release this to earn a bit of cash from a casual listener...

Apart from other great tunes, this album is worth buying just for traveller's tune. An immense song. Great video to the song, too!
Release Date April 30, 2007
This record was put out in April 2007 and for me, has to be their 3rd best album after Moseley Shoals and NAD. I was fortunate enough to meet the band at their album launch last year and they are fantastic lads. This album for me will be played in 20 years time and songs like, Go to Sea, Mr Brown, Man in the Middle and the title track will still sound fantastic. This band are the most underrated in Great Britain but should be given a chance by anybody who appreciates real music. This is a cracking album. They are also the finest live band I have seen and having been together for 19 years, they certainly deserve some recognition.

This album, in my opinion is greater than the sum of any of it's parts.
It has it's flaws, some of the recording, the levels and the mastering is a little off. Perhaps there are some lesser tracks. There are flaws.
But it doesn't matter. The songs are great and that's what counts. Profit in Peace and So Low open up the able and set the mood. These are instant classics. The middle of the album is made up of rock, folk and soul, with great musicianship thrown in.
The last song, "I won't get grazed", is a haunting tune to finish the album. If left on repeat it also becomes the perfect intro back into track 1.
When I listen to this I feel that it was perhaps not the easiest album to record, an album created from a ... Read More:

2003 is not a year remembered for an album release by OCS. However they did indeed faithfully put another one out, so to speak.
It is undoubtedly an improvement on the lacklustre "Mechanical Wonder" that preceded it. The opener and lead-single - "I Just Need Myself" is a sharp and well-put together tune with Steve Cradock's choppy guitar working well with the excellent rhytmn section of the band. The title track is arguably one of the best things the band have done but it's unfortunate that no-one notices a track like "North Atlantic Drift". "Make The Deal" is another solid track harking back to late 1960s British pop music.
Elsewhere things are not quite as sharp. Throwaway tracks like "Second Hand Car" and "Oh Collector" could be B-sides. ... Read More:

This is effectively the second acoustic album from Ocean Colour Scene, with Simon and Oscar's Live on the Riverboat first and, to be honest, better for those who aren't die-hard fans.
This record is acoustic (for the most park) and shows the way for OCS's move towards their Folkier influences. It is without a number of their greatest hits, and although that may disappoint some, it gives the album a purpose.
My favourite's on the record are probably the first two tracks, along with the eternally brilliant Foxy's Folk Face. At the same time, I'm pleased the album includes the lovely Matilda's England and God's World, which show a side of the band that I'm not sure anyone would have expected in the early days.
Release Date March 01, 1997
This is in my opinion the most important Ocean Colour Scene record. If you are as fanatic about the art of songwriting as myself, then look no further than this record. This is a fantastic representation of a fantastic band. While I could sit here and praise their first three major releases for hours, I could sit here and praise this for weeks.
It is almost bewildering how some of these tracks are 'b-sides'. songs like 'Huckleberry Grove', 'Chelsea Walk', and the gorgeous 'Robin Hood' display enough brilliance to make it on to any album, but perhaps that is why I have such admiration for this record. In music, some things just don't piece together so easily, I can in many ways see why these tracks may not have merrited a spot on Moseley Shoals or Marchin' Already, because ... Read More:

I am very happy to own a CD copy of this album. When it was released for a digital download, I felt a little sad because I am a real fan of Ocean Colour Scene, and an important record like this deserved to be printed on CD...you know, as some people still prefers a vinyl instead of a CD, I go for the CD instead of the MP3 format.
Well, the recordings date from 1990 and 1996-1997, the best years for OCS. And the selection is great. The sound for the first 4 tracks makes you reconsider if their debut album wasn't that good as they said. But the versions to "The Riverboat Song" or Ronnie Lane's "The Poacher" are worth too. These recordings sound more, let's say, naked. But "Riverboat" reaches some unespected sound as if it was played in a forest at midnight and around some fire ... Read More:
