This is offspring. No doubt. Nor do you even get a feel that that they have been going since the early 90's. I still prefer Ignion and tunes such as dirty magic & The Kids arnt alright etc are a couple of the best songs they ever did but who cares right.
This definatley feels like a band running on top form and to be fair I was not expecting much. I felt their formula was getting stale and boring and skipped the last album so I was actually a bit shocked when I saw this for sale... ...here we go again. But I took the chance and glad I did.
As soon as the opening track goes on the smile goes up and u'll be turning the volume to max and maybe even secretley jumping around your room.

i bought this album about 3 months ago and i can't stop listening to it. im kind of confused that after 6 minutes on the wiseguys remix of the kids aren't alright it plays all i want is to be next to you, surely it would have made more sense to put it as one track. if anyone can help me could you recomend some music around the red hot chili peppers, the offspring and system of a down.

This album was the 3rd album from the offspring. Ignition was great but didn't get as popular. But as soon as the videos for 'Come Out and Play(Keep 'Em Seperated)' 'Self Esteem' and 'Gotta Get Away' were released they hit big time.
Then Ixnay was amazing. The First 4 Albums were the best and i can't choose between them.
I love the later albums too but they could have done so much better on Conspiracy Of One. Which if i had to choose would be my worst album.
But anything by the offspring is first class and i love them all.

By far the most commercially viable of all The Offspring releases to date. Album 5 continues (where Ix Nay started) to soften the raw sound of Dexter Holland's voice and Kevin Wasserman's Guitars, and while Holland's voice is still slightly ear grating, and very prominent in the mix, Americana is a departure from their rough furious jagged punk days.
Americana is also the first Offspring record that is geared towards singles, featuring a slew of radio friendly hits of the likes of "Pretty fly (for a white guy)", "The kids aren't alright" and "Why don't you get a job?", that will take anyone like me (who got into music through the Green Day / Sun 41 punk rock revival in the late 90s and early 00s) right back to those days. These new songs ... Read More:

The offspring's third album after 'ignition' and the (no pun intended) smash-hit 'Smash'. This time produced by the producer of Jane's addiction, tracks often seem to have some jane's addiction influence, but when you listen to the entire album it is still undeniably offspring style. Having bought this album after i bought the 'greatest hits' collection, I found that several tracks were unbelievably catchy and some songs had more mature themes; 'Gone Away' in particular.
This is my rating of the songs
01 Disclaimer 9/10 possibly the best intro to a punk album ever. Very funny.
02 The Meaning of Life 8/10 Good song, good riffs.
03 Mota 9/10 I love this song, the opening riff and 'MOTA' is awesum.
04 Me & My ... Read More:

the california punk scene would be a dull place without these boys and after they went off the boil with a couple of safe and by their standards quite dull albums they have gone back to the glory days of four chords played fast with woah ohhhs all over the shop
the good
the song variety is as staggering as it is surprising
veering between the lightening speed of da hui to the AFI clone of race against myself and the token ska funk out of the worst hangover ever
the guitar sound is great dexters voice sounds the best it has for a long time
the bad
very little if any at all
the main problem is that they aren't doing anything new but what they are doing they are now doing brilliantly again

And not one of these "I love Pretty Fly For A White Guy" wannabes then you'll love this album.
The fact that Pretty Fly is so succesful says a lot for youth of today (of which I am an unfortunate particiapant). This is scratchy earthy and grungy Punk; something which does translate into the later stuff if you listen hard enough.
If you want poppy Punk don't buy it; if you want one of the greatest Neo Punk bands to ever grace the planet's first album showing them off in their working man days - this is your album.

ok yes this didnt sell as many copies as smash or probably any of the other albums they released after that but it should have done. it is a fantastic album from start to finish. the songs are fast and punchy and probably among the heaviest that the spring have ever written. you can see very clearly that this album is the logical progresion from their self titled debut with all the rawness of any punk band to the slightly more polished uber record that was smash. ignition is no better or no worse than either of those records and it is shame that this album seems almost to have been left behind as it is a phenominal if basic collection of ludicrously catchy songs. all about three minutes long and with wall to wall waa-ooo`s. simple, direct, basic all of these are true and that ... Well, if you're expecting another 'Smash' then forget that! the band have moved on since then!! but it's still another truly classic album from The Offspring! I guess the sound on this album is mostly similar to that of the bands 1999 'Americana' album... a very fun catchy album... which whilst being catchy and having a more mainstream sound, does still have some 'old Offspring' sounds... there are no real stand out tracks on this album.. the whole thing is just pure Offspring genius....
