"Mulatos" is a fantastic culture mix of jazz,afro,cuban and middle eastern music styles and flavours from the cuban pianist Omar Sosa.With most of Sosa's recent work being in the traditional African vein i was pleasantly surprised to hear something unlike of which i have previously heard.
He doesn't dazzle with keyboard pyrotechnics but instead provides thoughtfull melodic statements played over some laid back Afro/Middle eastern style grooves.
Sosa himself plays the Piano,Fender rhodes,harmonium,marimba, vibes,bells and all percussion as well as lending some minor vocals to this eclectic mix.He also keeps up with modern times with some voice chanting and sampling and drummer Steve Arguelles even gets to do some turntable scratching ...
