I bought this album when Amazon recommended it to me as I've bought Guillemots, Pigeon Detective, Kooks, etc music from here. The album is a good album, and fits in perfectly with the indie sound and scene. However, it is a little too generic for my liking.

They can play and they can sing and clearly have talent but I feel they need to try and develop their own sound and a unique selling point for themselves as although they're good, they're not great and will end up being just another one of many similar indie bands.

This is, for me, a 3 star effort. I hope their next offering is more unique.

The Only Ones

I have yet to forgive Blink 182 for covering 'Another Girl, Another Planet' but then again perhaps it will help inspire a new generation to explore the work of one of the standout fringe-punk bands of the era? What really made The Only Ones special is that they could actually play a really tight set live and this knowledge helps one appreciate how good the studio albums are. I doubt if there were two many takes - just play it like we would on tour and get it down on an 8-track! Another Girl, may be the best song the Only Ones ever recorded but unfortunately this is definitely not the best collection. There is just a bit too much slow stuff going on for my liking. Just For Tonight

Amongst all the samey-sounding new indie bands around at the moment, One Night Only truly stand out from the crowd. Sounding part like label-mates the Killers and part something straight out of the late 80s, early 90s, Just For Tonight is a perfect slice of Brit-Pop. Little keyboard flourishes and good vocals really mark this track out as one of the highlights of 2008 so far and show fantastic potential for this band in the future. It's a dead catchy song and holds massive appeal and all in all it's well worth getting hold of.

You and Me

This is not what one would expect for a debut single. I heard of them on a forum online and decided to check out their myspace and was duly impressed, so I decided to preorder "You and Me". It came 3 weeks after it was released, with all the shipping delays to the U.S. but was definitely worth the wait. I've already got Just for Tonight and Started a Fire slated to come; very excited for those. This band is bound to do great things, and I consider myself very lucky to have been there in the beginning. (Sort of...)

It's About Time

After just for tonight i didnt think they would be able to top it but they managed to create a song thats on par. These guys are going to be huge in the coming months i reckon, they are one of the top indie bands out there at the moment in my opinion. Thats coming from someone who only listens to rock aswell.

Another Girl Another Planet: the Best of the Only Ones

Another Girl Another Planet is a compilation of material from the great cult band The Only Ones, its title and key track stems from a TV ad campaign that used the song and a cover version of it. This has reportedly been a good financial thing for Peter Perrett and there are rumours of a reunion, which would be deserved since the band didn't get more than critical acclaim during their career from 1977 to 1981 (& health apart, Peter Perrett's The One in the 1990s were great live).

Lacking humour persistent in Peter Perrett's other work, this collection of out-takes shows the darker, more desperate side that the Only Ones rarely captured on their other releases. Want some proof? Just look at the titles: Flowers Die, My Rejection, Watch You Drown etc.

Counterfeit Woman (with the only guitar solo that ever mattered) and Hope Valley Blues match anything any rock/underground/indie band ever did.

Quite simply, one of the greatest works ever released and certainly better than any 'official' Only Ones work.
