Not another Orb album I hear you cry, but wait. This one is actually quite good. It is a compilation of the live BBC sessions they did between 89 and 01 and is probably more of a companion to "Evil Orb" than any studio album.

The Orb were always an inventive live act, mixing up samples and bass lines, and some of the tracks here are so different as to be better than the album versions. That is just my opinion though.

Hilights are the liner notes by Kirs Needs, the cover of the Stooges "No Fun" and a great "Towers of dub".

The Dream

Having listened to Adventures beyond the Ultraworld until I knew every note - I wondered if any future album would live up to this benchmark.
There have been some really memorable pieces of work since then which I won't repeat where others have. Until now.....
This album sums up how far The Orb have travelled and for me that is full circle. This album contains rich textures and a warm foot tapping feeling rather than being creative and isolated as with earlier albums. Plenty of rhythmic beats and bass.
Tracks such as High Noon, A beautiful day and The truth is are exceptional. Yes there are plenty of vocals which also work really well.
With the trademark 'less than 30 second' tracks thrown in as well these prepare you ... Read More:

Set phasers to stun and fasten your seatbelts. Psychonauts stand by!!! This is a classic album and I think one of the defining soundtracks of modern club life. A staple survival tool for late night/early dawns.

You simply cannot be an electronic music fan without owning this CD. If for some unknown, crazy reason you don't own it, BUY IT IMMEDIATELY!

U.F. Off : The Best Of The Orb

The best place to start for anyone thinking of buying an Orb record as it's got most of their best tunes edited down to a nice length and offers one classic after another. Even if you already own the albums it's still worth getting this 'best of'. My one complaint is that there's no tracks from Orbus Terrarum (aside from having Oxbow Lakes as a secret track) which is a shame as it would be nice to hear a radio edit of Slug Dub. Still an essential purchase.

Art of Chill 4 - Mixed by The Orb

I received this two days ago and have listened to it a few times now.
Rather like the previous release, compiled by System 7, it takes a little while to really appreciate this. You'd expect some overlap since System 7 have worked with the Orb over various albums. There's a bit from Rainbow Dome Muzik on here too.

This is like a very tasteful John Peel show; there's a lot of odd and unexpected tracks in here, but they all share a genuine chilled feel. There's a few things that might be called ambient, but it's more fun than that. The surprise for me was track 3 which I assumed was Lemon Jelly, but is actually the Orb.

I'll probably have to try out the first two releases now.

if they'd included the a DVD version of the "Patterns & Textures" video this Deluxe edition would have taken pride of place in my 90's ambient collection
but they haven't, so it won't!

are the only albums that stood out for me from the late 80's/early 90's drug fueled, carefree, acid/warehouse illegal rave days, sadly those days are long gone for me but these albums will always be around to celebrate that loved up generation that lasted for 5 years.
As for the album it's good and stuff (its all been written in the other more intelligent reviews)
