I must admit the first song I heard from Orbital was Halcyon + On + On, which still remians my favourite Orbital song (despite this being the only Orbital CD I own - they are very hard to find in Australia).
The first truly great track is Planet Of The Shapes, which seems to be all about maths and physics, which is fine for me because I do have an advanced degree in science (soon). Lush 3-1 and Lush 3-2 retain the high quiality of the previous tracks, but as stated earlier Halcyon + On + On is the best track on offer. It begins very light and atmospheric, but it takes you to another dimention when the bass enters, and is simply the best techno song ever, not that it defines the gener by any means.

I ordered this item (ASIN: B00002DE4K) from the Amazon USA site, and it DID NOT INCLUDE the bonus tracks Macro Head and Untitled. I guess those are still only available on the LP and cassette versions respectively.

I bought this CD 10 years ago in Tokyo and it ... ahem ... changed my life. It's that good. The Hartnolls blew apart the confines of techno with this album, producing something truly transecendent - the music is structurally complex, emotionally rich and spiritually vast. A defining moment in electronica...

Just a short review this time - I try my best never to have prior expectations about anything in life, especially music, thereby hoping that any disappointment is as justified as possible.
So, as a long time orbital fan, I was very disheartened when I heard the sound quality of the 2 audio CDs in this package. I cannot believe it was sanctioned for release, other than as a clever anti-piracy strategy....after all, who would want mp3s of poor quality audio sources ??? Just a thought....
The sound on the accompanying DVD is much better, almost perfect and has a nice balance of artist/crowd noise....reminiscent of the 3 Live EP/CD singles from 1996.
Also considering that some of (if not all - I cannot say - I gave up listening ... Read More:

Anyone who says this is Orbital's best CD is wrong and should refrain from commenting on music. Too many silly (vocal/sound bite) samples which devalue the tracks and make them tiresome and dated. The track styles are also very eclectic, great albums have a similar theme throughout, this album is all over the place.
'Are We Here?' and 'Kein Trink Wasser' are good tracks however, and 'Attached' is a masterpiece by anyone's standards, and as good as 'The Box' and 'Out There Somewhere? Pt.2'. Those last 2 tracks I mentioned are on 'In Sides', which does have a style which runs throughout the album, and no silly vocals, singing or soundbites, so get that album way before this. 'In Sides' also doesn't contain 'filler' tracks.

At the time of writing, it is'nt clear stated on Amazon but this is a greatest hits album. Tracklistings good but there are some clear ommissions. I don't suppose you can have a full representation of Orbital's music on a single disc but most of the tracks are what I think most fans would have put on. Personally I prefer Work 1989-2002 which contains the 7' edits for many of the album tracks (A great introduction to Orbital, teaser for the extended album tracks and a nice bonus for the existing fan). As it is this compilation's good but 2nd rate to Work

What i don't understand is how so many people have given this album a bad review? It is in my opinion a great way of hearing the different styles orbital has pioneered in the last thirteen years. If you don't like one track your bound to find another to your liking on it. This album porbably isn't for those who already own some of the older orbital stuff, but is worth a gander for anyone new to there music.
Release Date October 20, 2003
This soundtrack concentrates on one melody, and although it's a very complex, sombre, and downright creepy tune to strech it out over 14 tracks is a little too much to ask. It also seems to be just a sound track as all my efforts to find out about the film it came from have turned up no info at all, has anyone actually seen the film?
Buy this cd by all means it's a worthy if not unusual addition to any collection but it's more filler than thriller!
