Over the years Andrew Lloyd Webber has made many musicals, some more successful and appealing to the public than the others. Most people will, however, agree that "Evita" remains one of his most satisfying works to this date. Numerous reasons confirm this statement. Just like in its predecessor "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Evita" is almost entirely sung-through; the lyrics are witty and appropriate; the subject matter is again a personality larger-than-life who rises from obscurity and dies at the peak of its fame, thus becoming a legend; the score is captivating and appealing to the listener, at home or in the theatre.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Paige presents a complex Evita in a single disc.
The original staged production of Evita is available in a single disc of highlights. Director Harold Prince was responsible for the rescoring of the work without the rock band and this is the most obvious difference to the original studio concept album. Almost none of the rewriting of the score for the stage is contained on this single CD. And The Money Keeps Rolling In is heard, however, in its extended version allocated to Che, who also sings in the Lament. David Essex sings the role in his rugged rock style minus the gutsy accompaniment of the original double album.
