is there another album cover that screams 'vulgar display of power'?
unlike many other bands, who's 2nd album seems to flop dearly, Pantera's second album (or 6th, if you count the self-relased ones), is metal at its most powerful, devestating, and angry state. Songs like Mouth for war, Walk, This Love (absolutely NOTHING to do with the Maroon 5 song of the same name, thank you very much), and a new level have monster riffs and vocals; but the entire album is listenable without skipping any songs. Phil Anselmo's voice without the high pitched wails suits the music well.
if you like the watered down 'metal' of today (i.e. avenged sevenfold, trivium) you will probably think it too angry and heavy. However, if you like ... Read More:

Every metalhead should of heard the classic title track Cowboys From Hell Right? This album is a brilliant metal album not a bad track on it great riffs and solos and awesome vocals, bass and wicked drumming. This is a must have for every metalhead, if you think this is an awesome metal album check out Vulgar Display Of power that's even better. The best tracks are Domination, Cowboys From Hell, Primal Concrete Sledge & Heresy. A must buy a classic. R.I.P Dimebag.

I agree that this album is not the band's best. There are so many more fantastic metal albums to buy. It is heavy alright but it lacks either strong melodies or top quality rhythm. The vocal track is over the top and the rest doesn't gel. "Vulgar display" is hugely better. In all honesty I find this album difficult to listen to, making me feel a bit like my old mum - yet I have a collection stuffed with Sabbath, Megadeth, Mettallica, Slayer etc. You will be told to turn this down/off - but in such circumstances it is better to have a sense of incomprehending indignation (as if for example you are playing "Vulgar Display") rather than honest agreement. Not for the casual fan. 3 stars? well it is heavy...

Some of the best of Pantera's music. You should realy buy all their cd's if you want the best of Pantera. The Dvd's well cool too.

this has got to be the most under-rated of all the pantera albums, admittedly, it was released in the wave of grunge so it's not surprising it was fairly overlooked by some, as the dull dronings of nirvana were lapped up by the tasteless masses. but the fact that pantera was still going strong whilst the nu-metal and grunge scene lay exhausted is testament to the skill and drive of the raw pantera sound.
anyway, i digress, this is a purely fantastic album.
there is only the sound of an intake of breath before anselmo screams into you ears, it's at this poin that you know you're about to listen to something earth-shaking brutal. the album consists of some of their finest, dark, downtuned and brooding pieces - complete with phil's menacing inaudible ... I had Vulgar and went on to listen to this - it took time to grow on me, as all great albums do (a LONG time for this one) but the pure guttural nastiness of the vocals, percussive guitars, growling bass, infectious drum patterns and insane solos make this without a doubt one of the greatest albums I've ever listened to.
It has a certain dirty, gritty quality that makes it a very unique album in my books.
Dime does so many things with that axe that you didn't think were possible, and the lyrics and songwriting are amongst the best I've heard.
The album begins with a thrashy number, goes on to more groove orientated songs and then drops down into a well of wallowing self loathing and putridity nearer the climax - don't get me wrong - thats ... Read More:

Great album, but I'd have to disagree with people sayin that the two new songs are forgetable, ok so I cant Hide isnt a classic but Where You Come From is a top quality song! If you havent got any Pantera albums i'd recommend this but if youve got a few then theres nothing special on this that you wont of already heard.
