I Know That Name

I Know That Name finds Paul Carrack finally getting back to writing and recording, largely his own material. The previous 3 albums being last year's 'Old, New Borrowed and Blue' compilation, 'The Story So Far' (2006 Greatest Hits) and 2005's Winter Wonderland (Christmas songs). The last album of new Carrack songs was 2003's 'It Ain't Over', so it's well overdue and I'm pleased to say it's been well worth the wait... For me, this is his best album since 'Satisfy My Soul' (2000).

I mentioned that this is 'largely' his own material; the only exception being the first track 'Ain't No Love...' the Bobby Bland track (also covered by Whitesnake) and Paul's most successful UK single in a long, long time. There are 3 tracks co-written with ... Read More:

Greatest Hits - the Story So Far

People know Paul Carrack primarily as a member of various bands; Ace (How Long), Squeeze (Tempted) and Mike & The Mechanics (The Living Years, Over My Shoulder, Silent Running etc.). Either that or they know his work as a 'hired gun' appearing on albums from artists as diverse as The Smiths to Elton John, Roxy Music to Simply Red. Brian Ferry as a singer songwriter I can take or leave.Roxy Music in small doses.Ferry as an artist who does stacks of cover versions? Yes definitely.
The Dylan collection is not the first time he dabbled in Dylan as A hard rain's gonna fall was made in 1974 in a radical makeover which was more Barry McGuire than Bob Dylan-whose original had been acoustic.
Purists may object but then they aren't the ones who'd have the imagination Ferry has.
For a start this is more a label of love.Its never going to be any sort of chart record unless public taste moves back to where it was before the 80s.
I now look forward to Ferry doing a Beatles covers album

A Soulful Christmas

This is a collection of songs sung by Paul Carrack- the most famous singer that no-one appears to have heard of! Paul was the lead singer of Squeeze and Mike and the Mechanics amongst others and wrote the wonderful "How Long" when he was in the band 'Ace.'

If you like Christmassy songs then this CD is for you. Paul Carrack has a wonderful soulful voice and this album is made with a large "big band" sound.

If you haven't already bought it for this Christmas, then buy it for next.

Old, New, Borrowed and Blue

For those of you waiting/hoping for newly written & recorded material from Paul Carrack, you'll have to wait a little longer. This new album is intended as a 'Special Souvenir CD' to coincide with his European tour of the same name (which is currently in full swing as I write this review).

Paul Carrack has once again recorded a superb album every song on this album i like and this is my favorite Paul Carrack album now 10 years old and still sounds great.....would love paul to go back to this stuff

Blue Views

I went to see Paul C afew months ago and was totally hooked - have always loved his voice from his Mike and the Mechanics days.
This album is so good - Eyes of Blue (when he sang it live the whole stage was bathed in blue light - very emotional). Always Have, Always Will - very poignant words. I could just go on all day. Groovin is very good but this album is excellent.

Paul's work with other bands and Carlene Carter are beyond reproac h but the later solo output is very samey. All FM Adult Orientated sub-Rock that just doesn't cut the mustard! The disc's finest hour are the Ace tracks and those with the aforementioned Carlene Carter. Ever thought about rejoining Squeeze Paul?

Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City

Paul Carrack's new single is a deliberate shift of gear. It's an attempt to bring in a whole new audience, possibly people who know his work with Mike & The Mechanics, Squeeze etc., but aren't as aware of his solo output. To this end, it's worked very well being his first single in a long time to be heard regularly on the radio, it's A listed on BBC Radio 2. It has also moved him out of the comfort of his home recording studio where he normally works, to record in Nashville with a full band and brass section; resulting in a fuller, richer sound.
This is the first track from a forthcoming album that finds Paul writing again (although he didn't write this), the first time since 2003's 'It Ain't Over.'
