Hmmmmmmmmmm?? Why do I have to give it 1 star?? It's one too many!!
A brave album that doesn't work I'm afraid.
He's got some guy called Youth working with him, and with Smug Mccartney being "down with the kids" I presume that this is whom the album is intended? However, anyone below 35 won't buy this as they won't have heard of His Smugness.
There's more chords on a Status Quo album than there is on here!! It's not catchy enough to work in the clubs, not folky enough for the hippies and not Beatles enough for those poor misguided fools few who still listen to them.
Paul, please do us a favour and retire. Or at least go mad like Ringo so we can laugh at you instead of empathise. Your music ... Read More:

I have never been into classical music, however the TV programs Maestro and Last Choir standing (I know trash TV... sorry) made me realise I did like some classical music. So time to test that theory, and of course this CD fitted the bill perfectly, a bit of everything and 99% you will probably know. Good album, maybe I may have discovered culture :-)

Let's start on a bold claim: The standout tracks of this album - Jet, Band on the Run, Bluebird, Let Me Roll It - are as good as anything that the Beatles did. And follow it with another: With the possible exception of George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, this album beats everything any other ex-Beatle ever did.
Charged with energy and enthusiasm, and with McCartney playing almost everything, including guitar solos (despite the prescence of Denny Laine, a tidy player in his own right), this is one of those albums that when it starts, you just smile in the knowledge that the next 35 minutes are going to be exquisit.
Macca takes us through a variety of musical styles and reminds us of his awesome genius: There's the melodic rock ... Read More:

Pro: All the songs you know and love
Con: Misses out 21 years of his career, not a lot of songs on this CD
Don't get me wrong. I have been into Paul McCartney for 20 years now. This album is a great introduction to him and his solo career, but an even better "Best Of" is Wingspan, which was released in 2001. It has more songs on it, and has a few more obscure songs on there. Furthermore, this album was released in 1987, and he has done 21 years of new material since then so you're missing out a sizeable chunk of his career. I do like all the songs on this album, but for me, I feel his best songs are his more obscure ones. My favourite Macca albums, which I will review all of on here over time are: McCartney, Off The Ground, Band On The Run, Flowers ... Read More:

Just as a general pointer, Wings albums are counted as anything after Ram and McCartney (so 1972-1980) and anything up to the Japan tour. I felt it appropriate to clarify this as Paul McCartney has, after this time, released solo albums as just Paul McCartney, although these are not relevant to reviewing Wings'Greatest.
I do like all the tracks on this album and it's good for the very casual listener who likes all the hits and does not want to commit to buying more albums but it's not, in my opinion, Wings' Greatest songs. Or not all of them. I love these songs but there are some very obscure beauties, such as Helen Wheels, Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five, Picasso's Last Words (Drink To Me), Mrs Vandebilt, Bluebird (and these are just songs from one album; ... The best he did post Beatle ? I think so,other McCartney albums have classics and good tracks but also some mediocre ones but this album is filled with great tracks some mellow some more upbeat, the American version has an extra track `Helen wheels` which does not appear on UK versions. We all know `Jet` and `Band on the run` but `1984` is also a superb track, well worth buying,if your a McCartney fan you will already have this one if your not then try it,it could turn you into a McCartney fan.

Macca takes us back to that dream 1965-68 period with some magical Beatles quality numbers and as a bonus we get some vintage 1973/4 Band on The Run Wings thrown in. If "Chaos and Creation" was a return to song writing form then the down side was it was a bit too easy listening for me but here Macca gets the Rock guitars out again and the result is memories of the great years in music.
"Only Mama Knows", "End of the End" and "That was Me" are pure Revolver whilst the quirky "Mr Bellamy" is pure Sgt Pepper and "House of Wax " and "You Tell Me" the "White Album".
Wings kick off the Album with the single "Dance Tonight" and the superb harmonies of "See Some Sunshine" and they come back at the end a for a punky "Nod of the Head" but in between it's Beatle heaven. "That Was ... Read More:

I can't understand some of the moaning about this compilation from self-proclaimed True Wings Fans who proceed to complain that this, that or the other of their pet album tracks isn't included and should be. As True Wings Fans, surely they already have the tracks in question anyway, so why get so hot under the collar about it? A compilation by its very nature is never going to coincide exactly with most diehard fans' personal favourites, but for those who simply want all the tracks they know gathered together in one place, you'd be hard pressed to beat this.
What I wanted from this CD was all the McCartney/Wings singles I remember from my 70s childhood, and by jove that's what I got - with some new (to me) gems thrown in too, couldn't ask for more. Re. someone's sniffy suggestion ... Read More:

Venus And Mars is the fourth album Wings released and followed up the critically acclaimed and massively successful "Band On The Run" . Recorded in New Orleans the recording sessions saw the band expand from a three piece to a five piece with the addition of Jimmy McCulloch on lead guitar and Geoff Britton on drums .These two didn't get along though and their enmity led to Britton quitting halfway through the recording having only contributed to three songs . He was replaced by American Joe English so the album could be finished which of course it was , being released on May 27th 1975.
It received a mixed critical reception but some of that was undoubtedly backlash after the lauded "Band On The Run". Venus And Mars , like anything McCartney had a hand in post Beatles nowhere near qualifies as ... Read More:
