It is very difficult to approach this album with anything close to objectivity. I have been a big Queen fan for close to twenty years now and, in my opinion, Queen without Freddie just wasn't an option and, after Brian, Roger & John dismissed rumour after rumour of replacing him with a plethora of different front men, I thought that Queen had all but been laid to rest. Then, of course, I heard that they were touring with Paul Rodgers on vocals and, to be honest, I was slightly nonplussed and had no interest in going to see them live. However, when news came of a new studio album with brand new songs - well, now I was interested. I still object to the use of the Queen name - without Freddie and John, it is tantamount to Paul & Ringo ... Read More:

The long awaited Queen + Paul Rodgers studio album has totally surpassed my expectations. It's a high-quality piece of work and I enjoy listening a lot to tracks such as We Believe, Call Me, C-Lebrity or Time To Shine. I recommend it to all Queen fans and Paul Rodgers fans!
Release Date April 16, 2007
I bought the CD after first buying the DVD , and would heartily recommend both. As a fan since the 70's , I can say that not all Paul's work since has been top notch , but certainly this effort rolls back the years to rival some of the best live performances I've heard. The album features 6 from 8 of the original album Free Live from 1971 , with the remainder dating mainly from the Bad Company era and beyond. My personal fave is "Ride on a Pony" which betters the original.
Overall , I think anyone familiar with his work will not find this collection disappointing.

So you want to hear Muddy Waters' music "rocked up" a little? Sounding tougher than on the 50s singles? Some better fidelity, too?
Guess a re-recording would be a good idea, then. And Muddy Waters himself did those re-recordings back in the 70s and early 80s for the Blue Sky label: "Hard Again", "I'm Ready" and "King Bee" were the titles.
This is good music, sure. And Paul Rodgers is a good singer, although he can't match the power and manliness of Muddy Waters' big baritone. But it's an oddly superflous album all the same. Most of these 15 tracks have a different lead guitarist, and I guess that's the attraction for some listeners. Blues legend Buddy Guy is here, and plays well, of course. And so do Gary Moore and David Gilmour. ... Read More:

RVWs first rewards repeated listening, and it took a few years before it really seeped into my soul. This recording is wonderfully balanced, and all the more dear to me being made in my home town (just opposite the bus station: well you need something to bring you back to Earth after an hour of this :o)

It may sound superflous for opera singers to sing Rodgers & Hammerstein, but Bryn Terfel's recital proves an exception to this perception. Terfel's R&H disc is arguably one of his finest recordings, displaying a characterful feel for this music and impeccable diction. I know his song selection is a little skewed to the first half of R&H, but many well-loved favourites such as Some Enchanted Evening, If I Loved You and Edelweiss show off his voice to good effect. The first-class, traditional backing from the chorus and orchestra, and the sumptuous and clear recording, complete with a superb essay and full song lyrics in the booklet, only serve to add icing to the cake.
Terfel's recital opens bracingly with Oklahoma's Oh, what a Beautiful ... Read More:

This is just one of the most lovely recordings I have ever heard... Both Fleming and Terfel have just the right feeling to really make you adore what they are singing and the arrangements and orchestra are right on the money! Music to dream by and know what well-trained voices -artists, can bring to musicals!

This was Paul Rodgers' first piece of work following his split with Bad Company in 1983. The latter Bad Co albums had become turgid, directionless affairs as the band had lost much of their original inspiration.
Unsurprising, therefore, that this offering, although giving us the most excellent title track (why doesn't he play this live?) makes you feel that he is feeling his way slowly back to the source of his passion.
Of course, if you're a Paul Rodgers fan there are many good reasons to get a copy :
his first work since leaving Bad Co
plays all the instruments himself
his singing re-affirms his position as one of the the best blues singers ever.
So, on balance, 3 stars for content but still worth a listen.

C-lebrity is a fun, rocking track from the new debut album by Queen + Paul Rodgers. Lots of classic Queen trademarks, from May's instantly identifiable guitar and a hooky riff, a catchy chorus, and some trademark Queen backing vocals - plus the added power of the voice of the always excellent Mr. Paul Rodgers. Some great, biting lyrics, too, all classic Roger Taylor stuff, with equal parts with the humor and the sarcasm. This is a fun track. A good mix of rock and pop with a nice to-the-point guitar solo. "I want to be a star in a Broadway musical - they're gonna love me - I can't sing or dance at all" is a great lyric. Roger Taylor, as always, really nails it with some powerful percussion. A song I could hear Freddie Mercury really sinking his teeth into. And I ... Read More:
