Got into this band a year ago after I heard about them when up in Skye.
Did the daft thing and bought their earlier albums until I saw them live at the the Middlewich Folk Festival June 08. They Played the majority of this album and have to say in 8 words." Best live band I seen in 30 years" Have seen Queen, Runrig etc etc

My girlfriend bought this for me as I had it on my Amazon wish list, placed there on spec, mainly on the basis it looked interesting given my current musical tastes. Wow, it really does knock your socks off. The pipes have a slightly rasping sound which becomes subdued once the trance-like percussion comes in, the combination of which is blissfully hypnotic. If you like your folk music with a modern dance twist many of the tracks on this album will suit, my friend described it as psychedelic folk, very apt.One minor criticism, tracks one and two are a bit similar. I can only imagine that this band live will be fantastic, buy it and be not dissapointed.Think Afro Celts and Shooglenifty with more energy-Love it!

Wow give me my money back!! This was awful. I know I am going against the other two reviews but this is no easy listen. I was expecting some up beat Celtic music but instead you get a mish mash of Celtic / Northern Soul (anyone else remember that!) and weird Enya type stuff. This is not worth the effort or the £'s. Best stick to Shooglenifty or even better get yourself the Koda - Alternative Frequency CD.
Again, even after 5 times through it doesn't get any better - AVOID

This is the album that started it all for me and my wife. First heard it in 1999 on a sunny evening in a lovely restaurant above the harbour in Portree and was blown away (and my usual fare has ranged from Pink Floyd (pre-Animals), punk, new wave, indie, classical). Eiggman is my personal fave from this album.
Saw them in Edinburgh where I also bought the other (at the time, 2006) three albums. As everyone says, they really take you someplace else live - sometimes back to Skye, sometimes a rock gig, sometimes Mahavishnu style jazz, often plenty of bass n' pipe driven trancey stuff. Definitely a must-see-before-you-die experience!
Completely disagree with last reviewer, "Faerie Stories" is by far the weakest album with ... Read More:

Hmm, I have to say that I'm a little disappointed with this effort, but at the same time I can't say I didn't enjoy it. In comparison to the Faeries earlier releases this doesn't quite match up, but as a stand-alone album it fairs quite well. The guys have taken a slightly new direction with this one. It works quite well, but the compositions are what lets this down, they just aren't as strong as before. There are stand-out tracks in: "Shifting Peat & Feet" & "Skeabost Monsoon", but the rest of the album doesn't hold quite the same appeal. All in all a decent effort, but these guys can do better.
