Superb compilation with the obligatory chart successes of the 50s and 60s, some 70s tracks from her acclaimed "Memphis" and Warm and Tender" albums; a couple of fine duets with Michael McDonald and Dusty Springfield; a tribute to Queen; some excellent tracks from 2002, and most especially 4 new songs. Petula's voice is better, stronger and more soulful than ever on these fantastic, largely self-penned, rather reflective songs, recorded in London, New York, and the fantastic new studios of Arthanor Productions in Geneva in 2008 and with production by John Williams and David Hadzis. The Classic Collection

This is a good all round collection of Pet's music. Most of the hits are here, including some that were from the US or France. The liner notes are excellent, sound quality is good. The running order is not quite as logical as I'd have liked but you get used to where things are soon enough. Recommended for anyone who like Petula's music but doesn't have the originals or just wants CD versions of the tunes.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CAST RECORDING ALL ROUND AND DEFINITELY THE ONE TO BUY FOR AN AUTHENTIC REPRESENTATION OF ONE OF THE FINEST BRITISH MUSICALS EVER WRITTEN.

Anyone who loves Bobby Darin will treasure every moment of this two disc set--one DVD of video cuts, including some never before released black and white film, and one CD of twenty songs, including most of his biggest hits. The DVD reminds the viewer of just how young Bobby Darin was when he died. It is obvious that several of these video cuts--including "Song Sung Blue" and "All I Have to Do is Dream," done with Petula Clark--are from TV performances. Though most of the cuts look like Vegas, with lots of finger-popping, toe-tapping, and stage movement, the TV cuts are static--as Darin does not dare wander from close-up camera range.

Petula began her recording career in the forties (at a time when she was more interested in acting than singing) and continued to record in the new millennium, making her career one of the longest in popular music history. Despite some excellent recordings at other times, the sixties were her best and most productive and it is that music that forms almost the whole of this collection.

Petula recorded these albums in 1968 and 1969, using much the same sound that had brought her so much success in the mid sixties, but pop fans were turning their attention elsewhere so the singles from these albums (Don't give up, Kiss me goodbye and Happy heart) were less successful than their quality deserved. It didn't help that Andy Williams also recorded Happy Heart, and first performed it on a TV show hosted by Petula (who could have stopped him when she heard what he planned to sing, but Petula is not a selfish person).

It Had to Be You - The Complete Early Singles

Pye issued some of this stuff before-there was a Golden Guinea LP called The Petula Clark Hit Parade Volume 1-never followed up with a 2nd.
Apparantly a number of master tapes were destroyed but then record companies have little idea same as the BBC who destroyed hundreds of shows some with the first ever appearance of the Beatles.
Probably why there's little in ths shops of concert appearances by not only Pet Clark but Vera Lynn and Marion Ryan.
So this is important.
Pet Clark has dabbled in everything-she cut one of her first LPs in the States and went back to do another in Memphis after which she even made the country charts long after she was a mainstay of the British Invasion.
