The last album featuring the revolving door policy of old, the QOTSA group on this album features Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, ex-Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan and most notably, with the Foo Fighters in disarray, Dave Grohl making a welcome return to drums.

Songs For The Deaf finds Homme streamlining the sexy yet doom-laden groove of the previous two albums into something almost perfect. Lullabies to Paralyze

Alright? I've said it. This is the best record I've ever heard, which, by definition, means I think it's better than the majestic Songs For The Deaf. No snap decision this; I bought this when it came out, I thought it then, I haven't changed my mind. Maybe my mind was more open at the time because I wasn't really aware of the importance of Nick Olivieri's role prior to his departure - but I certainly don't think that the album is poorer because he's not on it. In fact, I was delighted that Alain Johannes was able to contribute (and then bring his "Eleven" partner Natasha Schneider with him on the tour).

Era Vulgaris

As the title of this review says this album is awful. The best song by a long way is Sick, Sick, Sick which I first heard them perform live on the TV and thought, "Well hopefully things will get better". QOTSA are all about the tunes and heavy tunes at that.

This album is missing something and that something is Nick Oliveri. The bass is non-existent. Yuck this is just terrible.

I loved all their previous albums, I love the Desert Sessions, I loved Kyuss. What has gone wrong? I hate this album and all QOTSA have become: bloated crap.

Don't buy this! Buy any of their other albums! If you have all their other albums still don't buy it! Spend your money on some Nebula or Fu Manchu or put it in the bank.

I took a chance on this album in the first week of it's release and I still think it's the best pyschedelic rock album of the 90's. The singles such as "Lost Art of Keeping a Secret" and "Monsters in the Parasol" are absolutely timeless, "Monsters.." being hilarious as well as genius! The album tracks are just...well mindblowing! "Auto Pilot" and "Better Living Through Chemistry" compliment each other superbly, listening to both those tracks while under the influence is a treat (get some good headphones to hear the voices!). A shame Nick has now left, will they top it with their newie, "Lullabies to Paralyse"? Doubt it, but with the Queens, anything is possible.

Really good live concert, well put together, well recorded, a bit grainy in places (what's the point of this then.....I got a big clear telly!) but good natured and the playing is as spot on as the mixing.

A true tour-de-force of an album which paved the way for what was to come from Qotsa whilst also separating itself from a Kyuss-carbon-copy.
1)Regular John- A soaring, fuzzy, hypnotic riff that combines to startlingly brilliant effect with Homme's soft voice. 9/10
2)Avon- Achingly contemporary, this is a standout for the best bit of Qotsa drumming to be heard until a certian Dave Grohl came on the scene 9/10
3)If Only- Almost pop-like with its catchy chorus but this is so much better than anything you'll hear in the charts. A song for summer. 8/10
4)A groovy yet gargantuan track that pounds into your head. Homme's lyrics are very sharp here. Only tailback is the repeated riff that goes on for the last 2 minutes 8/10

Stone Age Complications

YES, this is an EP and not actually a full release from the band. Don't expect a long disc. But, no matter the shortage, this cd has some rare tracks from this excellent band. You will like the 3 covers included on 'Complications', and if you're a fan, you will love the two original QOTSA tracks. 'Born to Hula' and 'The Bronze' are worth the while themselves. The odd remix of 'No One Knows' could however be easily switched with another (and better) b-side, and if that was the case it would be a 5-star for fans.
