Surfacing

by: Sarah McLachlan

Release Date October 05, 1998
I have owned this CD for over 5 years. I never tire of it and the songs take on different meanings every time I listen. The most penetrating voice i've ever heard and was lucky enough to hear in the flesh a couple of years ago in London. You can't go wrong with this album. Absolutely breath taking

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

by: Sarah McLachlan

Release Date March 31, 2001
It has taken me a while to come around to Sarah's music. Perhaps this is because I was not mature enough to appreciate it when she first started out (I was a teenager when this album was originally released). My tastes have changed over the years and I am glad that I didn't buy this until I was 'ready' for it. FUMBLING TOWARDS ECSTASY is a beautiful album, but as another has pointed out, there are moments that the pain drips from her words.
People on Amazon have starred this as her masterpiece - because this is the first and only album that I have by Sarah, I cannot comment on the validity of this, but what I can say is that the amount of talent she has is undeniable. Her lyrics are intelligent and can almost read like poetry. She also ... Read More:

Afterglow

by: Sarah McLachlan

Release Date
I came across Sarah after hearing the stunning 'Full of Grace' on Buffy. That song is beautiful, and I loved it so much I tracked down the rest of her work to find something as good. Sadly, none of her songs quite compare. However, this album is, quite simply, a work of art. I had heard great things about FTE and Surfacing, and whilst they are both great, they are genius in some places and simply ok in others. Afterglow, however, was amazing. It is her most consistent work- every track on here is pure gold and incredibly distinctive, something Sarah's earlier work lacks as most of the tracks seemed to bumble along, blending together. Not so on the gorgeously mature Afterglow. It took me only two or three listens to put this up there in my top five albums. ... Read More:

Rarities B-Sides and Other Stuff Volume 2

by: Sarah McLachlan

Release Date April 28, 2008
I've been a huge fan of Sarah McLachlan and her music ever since I discovered her music when it was showcased on the TV show Due South. I've got all her albums (except bloom/remixed) and plenty of live show recordings.

There are brilliant covers and collaborations on this album, most notably the Beatles' Blackbird, Randy Newmans' When She Loved Me from the film Toy Story 2 and a Live version of Angel recorded at Lilith Fair with Emmylou Harris.

But as with volume 1 of rarities there are a few not so good ones, in this case Unchained Melody, Ordinary Miracle and Just Like Me (yes, the ugly kid Joe song). Silence is also a rather strange inclusion as a finisher as there is no other dance song on the album, an acoustic version or rock ... Read More:

Mirrorball: Greatest Hits Live

by: Sarah McLachlan

Release Date January 14, 2002
I have been a big fan of Sarah McLachlan's for years after discovering her music in the 90's when I lived in America, and I have all her albums. Mirrorball is a wonderful live album, and most live albums are often mediocre in comparison to studio recordings so for one to sound this good is a rarity. This album contains some of her most well-known songs so would be a great introduction to her music for anyone who doesn't know of her. She is one of the best female musicians in recent years and her voice is just remarkable. She stands head and shoulders above a lot of other young female vocalists who I think often tend to sound very similar to each other, even if they do have good voices. Her songs are often incredibly poignant and moving, such as Angel and ... Read More:

Wintersong

by: Sarah McLachlan

Release Date November 06, 2006
When i first heard of this album, i was desperate to get my hands on it. I own everything Sarah has produced, and was eager to hear her reditions of these Christmas songs.
I have to say, the opening song sent chills down my spine. Memories of seeing her play live came to me, it was like having my own private concert in my living room.
Her voice is simply amazing, and im sure these Christams songs will have a place on your ipod, or in your CD player long after Christmas has passed.

Solace

by: Sarah McLachlan

Release Date January 17, 2000
Sarah McLachlan's career started moderately in the late 1980's with her debut album "Touch," but it wasn't until 1993's "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" that she really experienced big success. Following this was "Surfacing" which is her biggest selling album to date, going multi-platinum several times in the USA. Her career boomed in the late 1990's, but no one really paid much attention to her second album that was released in 1991. That album was called "Solace" and was, I suppose, the calm before the storm of true artistic success.

Solace is a superb album that shows not only a development in leaps and bounds from her debut, but heralds as a pointer of what was ahead in McLachlan's career. As a massive fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I was first introduced ... Read More:

Touch

by: Sarah McLachlan

Release Date January 17, 2000
My encounter with Sarah McLachlan came in the summer of 2004. I'd heard her music before but didn't really think of listening to any of her music, until I watched the final episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Season 2, "Becoming Part 2." The overwhelming emotion of that episode combined with Sarah's "Full Of Grace" made me buy two of her albums, "Solace" and "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy." I was so glad I did because those are both two amazing, beautiful recordings. For Christmas I also got "Touch," "Surfacing" and "Afterglow." Whilst I regard the latter two to be the best, "Touch" is also a noteworthy debut and should not be dismissed as it is by some fans.

Released in 1989, Touch was a relatively obscure debut from the talented McLachlan. She wasn't a well known ... Read More:
