This is truly a stunning piece of retro art.

The music is almost perfect, played by almost perfect musicians and sung by an almost perfect voice. There are distinct strains of Gloria Gaynor recorded in a manner that pays tribute to that great time in music. This could be the most perfect tribute album but, in it's own right, it is a fabulous piece of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. I'm so pleased I bought this.

These guys need some RESPECT! These guys are living THE FUNK! I want to marry SHARON JONES!

I want to be very clear how good an album this is but the kind of words needed to do so would simply be censored out. Instead I'd have to say this is sensational, truly authentic, hard hitting, old skool, slamming funk - and it's being made today!

It is quite shocking how authentically early 70s this band sounds. You can play this right next an old 45 from The Meters, Marva Whitney, James Brown or Marlena Shaw and it's on the button - the same style, heavy on the bass and drums as though they are falling out of your speakers, same loud, proud and powerful female vocal and by God it's infectious!

This album was a hidden gem that i stumbled upon through a song on a movie soundtrack. Being a big fan of this kind of music, it's not often i hear something from the old soul era and not recognise it; i heard this and thought "wow", then to my surprise i found out that it was from a current band and not old at all!!! Understandably I was even more delighted as it can only mean i'll get to enjoy more and more or their music over time. I recommend this album as i have a full-proof way to tell if an album is good: if within two plays i wake up every morning singing it's songs and i have to listen to it first thing, for a week, it's good. I have and therefore... i figure, it is. I do skip one of the songs on occasion, but the rest are great, particularly ... Read More:
