I have a couple of Simply Red's CD's and so it's kind of easy to buy this "best of". It is one of my all-time favourites, and as a collection it can provide listening music, dance music, and quality background music all on the same disc. Let me just name the tracks I really like: "Holding Back The Years", great dancing music with "Money's Too Tight to Mention", "A New Flame", "You've Got It", "If You Don't Know Me By Now", "Stars", and "For Your Babies". Come on - 7 top tracks out of 15 - this just cries out to be one of my top-10 CD's.

This was certainly one of the best albums of the 90's. This edition features a superb live performance from Montreaux show of 1991. Worth getting it just for this DVD alone. Each musician takes turns to put on fantastic show.

Stay

I first came across this album by watching the Albert Hall concert DVD. I thought it was superb. Up until recently I only had a copy of the 'New Flame' album from 20 years or so ago.Having heard a lot of the tracks from 'Stay' on the concert DVD I just had to get the album. Since then I have collected the rest(all 10) from Amazon and Ebay. They are all great but this one is superb. It's a shame its going to be the last Simply Red Album in the studio. Mick will certainly be setting himself a challenge to maintain this standard after his planned tour in 2009. There aren't really any stand out tracks as after 4 or 5 listens they are all great!

A New Flame

Ok, so I get these influences from my Dad, but this album is the first that we bought back in the day, 1989 I believe, on cassette, that I have got on CD now, I think Phil Collins' But Seriously would have to be next.
I have to agree with the previous reviews, and also add that to me, both sides of the cassette so tracks 1 & 6, and the last tracks on both sides, seem to feel like they belong there. Its as if they deliberately, put the upbeat Its Only Love and Turn It Up at the start. Funnily enough there's not a weak track on this album, which is rare of any album, although I would pick out A New Flame, More & To Be With You, as my least favourite. Man, I long for singers to sing with this passion now-a-days, including Simply Red. The majority of this album was written when sad old Red (aka Mick Hucknall) was living in a box room council flat and boy was he firey back then. The resentment, love and sorrow he had for life is conveyed in every note sung on this album to a degree he never really was able to reproduce. Maybe it was the money. Ironic, since it was Moneys Too Tight To Mention that caterpaulted them to their peak. I love this album for not only its mood, not only his firey raw voice but also for the superb melody and music. The throbbing of the double bass, the jazzy piano solos, brass crescendos all brought together in the superb reverb drenched recording and engineering.

I'm lost for words truly. This is a definitive mood expression for Simply Red. That voice, wow, that voice and emotion, sounds of that band....can just reach out and touch your heart. You will identify with the words...love both takes on "air". Wonderful, wonderful! Lovin' it in the USA!

I,m a great big whopping fan of Simply red, and have been for many a year! I have seen them live etc... etc.... I couldnt wait to get my hands on a copy of Home. When I heard it at first I hoped it would grow on me.. Instead, it grew mould in the back of my cupboard!! Apart from the amazing 'sunrise' and 'you make me feel brand new'.... 'It made me feel....very sleepy!'Mick's voice is amazing, its just the rest of the songs on the album are none other than pants..
