Guilty 'Til Proved Innocent!

The reformed Specials previous album `Today's Specials' was universally condemned for being an album of covers and so to right this on `Guilty `Till Proved Innocent' The Specials collect together 15 `original' compositions.

Roddy Radiation AKA Byers was always The Specials second most prolific writer and so it is appropriate that four of the 15 songs should be written by him. They are amongst the best of the songs collected here especially album opener `Tears in my Beer' which is reminiscent of the original Specials however the claim to original compositions is somewhat defeated by `Bonediggin' and `Man With No Name' had been recorded previously by Roddy's post Specials bands.

This is NOT the original Specials we have known and loved. It sounds like a James Last cover band it's atrocious. They have desecrated all the classics and there is no mention of it being a rip off!!! It's going back that's for sure.

The BBC Sessions

The Specials BBC Sessions album is a positive delight featuring different versions of Specials tracks and some rarities. The Sessions were all recorded for the John Peel Show and are all presented in chronological order apart from one untraceable tape.

The first session was recorded shortly after the `Gangsters' single was distributed by Rough Trade and is given a very distinct sound by the virtue of featuring no drummer but some percussion effects presented in lieu. As well as the single the other tracks featured are `Too Much Too Young' which was soon to be at number one as the lead titular track on a live EP, and the Toots and Maytals cover `Monkey Man'. Lemonade

Has G. Love ever made a bad record??? The answer is NO!!! and this no exception. This album is a pure ray of sunshine from track one through to the last. As with previous G Love (and Special Sauce) albums, there are several highlights throughout. Lyrically it doesn't disappoint either. The highlights for me personally on this album are 'Ride', 'Hot Cookin','Holla', 'Can't Go Back To Jersey' and a 12 string masterpiece 'Still Hangin Round'. There is also a new version of Rainbow feat Jack Jonhson originally from the 'Thicker Than Water' soundtrack. Track 13 is a soul searching song called 'Breakin up' and could bring the biggest of men to tears.
