Cricklewood Green: Remastered

Given the bewildering number of US tours TYA did, it's surprising that they had enough time to come up with so many good albums. Of the several I've heard (not all, admittedly) this one stands out. The production strikes the perfect balance between bringing out the quality of the individual performers and the energy of the whole. Alvin Lee was clearly on a creative high with his writing and all facets of the band's roots are explored here. Blues, jazz, rockabilly and hard rocking (not heavy metal) are all on show, all superbly done. There's even a fine, gentle, melodic song featuring acoustic guitar ('Circles'). The Best of Ten Years After

This cd is great! The only thing missing is the groups early Jazz leanings.IE Spider in your web.As rockers and balladeers no-one comes close to this much ignored, panned foursome from Nottingham. If you are new to their music..this IS a good place to start . Dan Jasper

Ten Years After Live at Fillmore East

This live recording from 1970 shows guitarist and (less impressive) vocalist Alvin Lee at his very best. In particular, this is evident on the two long tracks "I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes" (disc 1) and even more on the aggressive blues rock song "Help Me" (disc 2), which contains one of the most impressive and energetic guitar solos ever heard in rock history. Some would probably say that it's "too much", but technically speaking it doesn't get any better than this! And the sound is absolutely brilliant. The other official TYA live recording named "Recorded Live" (1972) lacks some of the impressive energy found on this recording, so "Live at the Fillmore East" is the most important of TYA's live performances.

Ssssh

I do not know of any record that starts off more explosive then Ten Years After's Ssssh does. Bad Scene is the ultimate opener, with crazy fuzz guitars, driving piano and furious lyrics. The song set the standard for the rest of the album.

Ten Years After brought their british blues to a new level with this album, lots of great riffs, frenzy fuzz guitars, innovative arrangements but without ever losing the important blues feel they were recognized for.

Other songs that are worth mentioning is the "funky" Stoned Woman, wich opens with one of the greatest bass riffs ever. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl wich became a stage favourite with it's great jam between Alvin and bassist Leo Lyons, the beautiful acoustic If You Should Love Me, and last ... Read More:

Watt

Watt a weird cover Watt a fantastic album. looking back its an assortment of styles we have folk, rock. r&b a real eclectic groove and it all flows so well. Alvin once infamously known as the fastest guitarist in the west gives us plenty to chew on here. all four members do them self proud especially the flowing almost jazzy bass runs from Leo. what with the vast amount of American tours this band made it is amazing to think they ever got in to a recording studio and came up with such great stuff...brilliant indeed. Watt is my favourite TYA album

For those Rock enthusiasts who do not own any of Ten Years After's albums, take it from me, you are really missing out and if you are thinking of starting a collection, then this is the one to start with because it is their debut album and like me you will probably want to collect them all in order.

Stonedhenge

Undead

There's no denying that Ten Years After produced some wonderful music for the time and if you listen to Rock & Roll Music To The World you'll understand why. Undead though is typical of the time; shallow live album that would have been great over a few beers down the pub as a spotty teenager but is too jazz influenced. Some of the jazzier numbers like 'I may be wrong' and 'Spider In Your Web' are not reflective of their true talent.

If you want an introduction to TYA try a different album.

A Space in Time

This is the follow up to Watt and I love it as tho it were part two. starting with track 1, One of these days , or as Alvin sings it ,One dem dayz boy. a lovely little riff, Here they come a mellow acoustic number , Let the sky fall If he ever lets his woman go, Uncle Jam a impro credited to all four members which for TYA is rare. Alvin guitarist supreme the unsung hero being Leo Lyons on bass he is in a world of his own! great stuff indeed.!

Roadworks

Ten Years after in the new line up are fantastic and not stale.
Their brandnew Live album is a highpoint in the long life of this Woodstock stars. Old hits and new songs on this Double CD sounds pretty fresh and the four boys are well suited to each other. The well known experience from Leo Lyons, Ric Lee and Chick Churchill join in with the vehement, but brilliant guitarwork of the amazing frontman and singer Joe Gooch. The man from Wales is a new born star with a great future. And "Roadworks" is certainly one of the best Live albums in 2005. Enjoy it!
