The more you get into this album the more you realise that it has been exquisitely put together with songs about love and hope.
My only reservation about Baxter is his rather high pitched falsetto voice but there is no denying the poetical feel to the lyrics. This is rock music for the intelligent set. I have an interest in Baxter's work as he comes from Bungay in Suffolk - a town I covered as a young newspaper reporter back in the 1970s.
There is a jazz feel to many of the songs and there will be obvious comparisons with the voice of Jeff Buckley. Baxter doesn't quite have the tonal range of his American counterpart but he always writes literate songs within his vocal range. I have seen him live and he produces a ... Read More:

I got this CD when it first came out, and was immediately drawn in by Tom's voice and the fantastic melody and instrumentation evident throughout the entire album. 10 good songs, 6 of which are very good, and two - This Boy, and The Moon & Me - which are truly outstanding.
IMHO this is better than his latest effort (which is still good, but lacking the consistently high standard of Feather & Stone). If you have found yourself on this Amazon page, just hit the purchase button...you know you want to, and I bet you won't regret it.

The video for Tom Baxter's 'Better' sums it all up really - the camera flicks between a guitar-strumming Tom and a selection of couples exchanging glances, holding hands, giggling at sweet nothings and gazing adoringly into each others' eyes... and despite what you might expect, it's totally convincing, just like the song.
You see, this is a love song for people who are actually in love. I'm not talking about the kind of love that gets reported in the gossip columns, or the pale imitation that fuels the teenage pop market - this song is about love making life worth living. 'See, what I'm trying to say is, you make things better/And no matter what the day is, with you here, it's better' sings Tom over a tune that's instantly appealing and ... Read More:

I bought this CD on the strength of hearing 'my declaration' once on Jonathon Ross' radio show. After waiting for the release date I have not been disappointed, the song is as beautiful, anthemic and tender as I remembered. You can't ask for more than this - it is musically and lyrically poignant, memorable and enjoyable to be swept up in.
Tom Baxter has a gentle and worn vocal delivery that is engaging and affecting. The build up from a bare acoustic sound at the beginning of the track to the orchestral strings at the crescendo really grabs the listener and holds onto the heartstrings. I have heard comparisons to Jeff Buckley. The artist that most quickly comes to my mind is Damien Rice. They both sing beautifully and gently and write touching ... Read More:
