This is quite simply a great introduction to the music of Tony Joe White. It features a number of stand out tracks, including Polk Salad Annie and Rossevelt and Ira Lee. Tony Joe combines soul, blues, country and rock to create his own sound. It's amazing when you hear this album how familiar some of the tracks are - a lot of this music was recently featured in the background of a travel programme on the USA. Buy, pour yourself a drink and enjoy!

Tony Joe White never fails to deliver. His own style and voice make him immediately recognisable and he's now teaming up. Another very interesting album from TJW. Gotta be good so gotta have it! George.

I've bought literally all this man's music, seen him live several times, and think that this is his best overall album. So many great tracks, but dip the lights, lay back and listen to the title track a few times - it's just brilliant. He does a tremendous live version on the Live in Germany DVD.Cannot see how this only rated 2 stars previously but what's an opinion?

This is Tony Joe in fine form, featuring several B-sides from his Monument records days. T.J. plays guitar, harp and whomper stomper (don`t ask - listen!) like nobody else can. Standout for me is the first track, "Saturday night in Oak Grove Lousiana" as I drove through there on a recent vacation in the USA and the place is STILL like the words of the song. If you like Southern Rock and you also like funk and have never heard Tony Joe, this album is a great place to start. Now if only he would release "Bubba and the world`s record large-mouth bass...."

Tony Joe White (TJW) returns to us with "Uncovered", a CD featuring seven new songs as well as new versions of three of his earlier tunes.
Among the latter, "Rainy Night in Georgia", originally released on his second Monument album in 1969, is the best known thanks to Brook Benton's 1970 hit cover version (it reached # 4 on the US singles charts.) On this re-cut, a cello is nicely put to use.
"Taking the Midnight Train" and "Did Somebody Make a Fool Out of You" are also first rate songs which both originally appeared on "Homemade Ice Cream", a 1973 Warner Bros. masterpiece that was produced by the late, great Tom Dowd and that is one of my two favourite TJW albums (the other being "The Train I'm On", released in 1972.) When Tony Joe first took the pop music world by storm, he was a triple threat - singing, playing, and songwriting gems like Polk Salad Annie and Rainy Night In Georgia. All three talents merged into a sound occasionally called Swamp Rock. All three talents are still well honed and Tony Joe still sounds as though he just waded out of the bayous of Louisiana. On the epic One Hot July, Tony evokes a southern summer as well as our own transience. But every song is a gem and the album is a great addition or introduction to Tony Joe White. The recording's release had a convoluted history but it was well worth the wait.
