Covered in Toy Dollsby: Toy Dolls Release Date March 04, 2002 I bought this because the Toy Dolls seem to be one of those bands who seem to get namechecked by a lot of my favourite groups (the Wildhearts and Terrorvision to name but two) and it's brilliant! This round-up sees Olga and his crew doing a cracking job re-interpreting the most unlikely of groups from Ricky Martin through Elvis, the Small Faces and the Proclaimers to Jason Donovan. It sounds completely mad and there's no denying it is but really if this album doesn't put a smile on your face then you're probably dead. Or a Coldplay fan which is arguably worse. Buy it. |

This is one of my favourite Toy Dolls albums. The opening song - The Death Of Barry The Roofer With Vertigo - sets the standard and the album never lets up. It's the usual Toy Dolls fare, punk with a smile. Olga's guitar work is as masterful as always and Tommy Goober and Dave The Nut (on bass and drums respectively) sound like they've been in the band for ever. I won't go through the tracks one by one, but there a couple of covers: She's So Modern - Boomtown Rats and The Final Countdown - Europe (with added kazoos!), a couple of older tunes (Chenky is a Puff, Yul Brynner) and a whole lot of fun in between.
