On first listen, eveything is here that you expect from a Tracy Chapman album: an obvious sincerity of thought and expression, love and politics and reflections. What makes this album so convincingly good, is the music of the musicians involved. Rob Burger, Carla Kihlstedt and all the others do not deliver some usually well-done studio work, they comment and enrich the songs in very interesting ways. Producer Larry Klein is looking for a different setting for every single track without lacking coherence. it's a flow from start to end. I still remember the moment I first saw and heard Tracy Chapman play "Talkin' About A Revolution" at the Nelson Mandela Concert in London in 1988. I was 16 at the time and it stopped me dead in my tracks and for the first time made me think about the wider world outside my own limited horizons. This song still sends a shiver down my spine just as it did 20 years ago.

Issues such as poverty, gun crime, and oppression of working classes and ethnic minorities are not unusual song subjects. And yet, from punk to gangsta rap, I would defy you to find an artist who can sum them all up so eloquently and compassionately as Tracy Chapman.

Let It Rain

When I was a toddler, I remember falling in love with her self titled album. Since then her music has stayed in my heart, although I had never really followed her music for some reason.

I finally bought this album after just having the first album. I was impressed. Usually most artists sell out, lose their message, heart and soul of their music as fame and riches drowns all that is good about it. Tracy Chapman on the other hand, has progressed to carry on making beautiful honest music that can send shivers down your spine.

I've never heard such a rich and expressive voice like this before and the music compliments with it's organic, colourful flavour and becomes an extension of her soulful voice.

Where You Live

Just love Tracey Chapman's stuff, full of meaning and soul. ASll of her work is timeless, even this album is no acceptation. I now have her full collection on cd which can be played time after time, after time. If you like Tracey Chapman you won't be disappointed.

Crossroads

A great album though not in the league of the 1st album.However, just watch for some real gems such as 'Born to Fight"and 'All That You Have is your Soul'. Tracy Chapman really raised the ante with her debut album and this effort does well to match it. Four Stars..very near Five but not quite

New Beginning

This album is slightly different in my opinion to other Tracy Chapman albums. The sound is somehow richer with more elaborate arrangement adding to the natural beauty of her songs. The use of srings and piano arrangenments makes songs like "The Promise" stunning, probably my favourite Tracy song ever. The voice and the story telling are the same as ever but this album benefits from a fuller sound and longer tracks which take you through a whole series of emotions. I believe this is a key album to add to your collection, perfect for any mood.

Telling Stories

There are five tracks (1, 3, 4, 5 & 11) on this CD that deserve to be on a Tracy best of collection. That is enough to make this her best CD. The grade would have been a perfect 5 unless the other songs were good rather than average. For sure she hasn't made anything better after this CD.
