Bought just for the title track, the whole album ended up begin fabulous. Lovely country twang, but not too much, the lyrics are clever and touching, the music a mix of catchy and totally haunting. A fantastic buy.

Mastering the art of twisting history and the crescendoing flow of post-rock, iLiKETRAiNS have certainly achieved recognition. 'Elegies to Lessons Learnt' is born of tales from beyond the graves of those buried in the past. The influences of bands such as GodspeedYou! Black Emperor, Mogwai, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is evident, however iLiKETRAiNS strive to distinguish themselves in this album by keeping to their own distinctive sound. A band much loved live, where you can really appreiciate the impact they have, the album speaks for itself in volumes.

English Boy Wonders

This album was a real find for me. I loved prog rock of the 70s but felt it had lost it's way by the late 70 , and 80's. Big Big Train brought something new to the genre mixing traditional English prog of bands like Genesis and Camel with 80's pop like XTC. Unlike prog before it the album lyrics were real and tangible - chronicling the breakdown of Greg Spawton's (lead gtr) marriage. The album has it's moments of vitriol but it's not all darkness and reflects on the shear bliss of first love and the pain and despair when this is lost. check out the free downloads at www.bigbigtrain.com

The Difference Machine

I'd recommend this to anyone who loved 70s prog bands like Gensesis, Yes and Pink Floyd. The sound is retro without being dated, and forgive me for saying is much better than the latest material we have had from the bands of the prog heavy weights appearing as guests.

The album has a set of main songs divided by shorter instrumentals. The songs revolve around a typical prog concept - but don't let that put you off. This is great stuff and works equally well on a personal level. Check out the bands web site for audio samples and some free downloads.

This, in my opinion, is the best train album out, mildly surprising seeing as it was their first, released in 1998. The album goes from strength to strength and even if your not taken by it immediately it will definately grow on you. Meet Virginia and Homesick are both incredible tracks and the album boasts a slightly rugged feel that is perhaps lost with the other train albums, which most see as generally more polished. I'd give this album six stars if i could, its a truly great buy.

My Private Nation

The first thing I will say about this album is, do not automatically compare it to 'Drops of Jupiter'. It is not just a follow-up, where the band follow the same formula to try and re-create the success of their previous album, it is an entirely new sound, that should be judged on its own. And, as that, I think it's a great success. It's not one of those albums that you fall in love with straight away, but then can fall out of love with just as quickly, it's more of a grower. I found that the more I listened to it the more I appreciated the beauty of the music and the poetry of the lyrics. It's an absolutely fantastic album.

Alive at Last [Us Import]

I have not been fortunate enough to see train live in concert YET! However this CD is incredible, gives you a sense of being there. All the favorites are in there, each with their own little twist. Definite 5 start material and a must for any train fan!

Progress Reform

A cut above the rest. Marrying the grandeur of todays post rock with yesterdays intelligent goth, (think of the criminally under rated And Also the Trees, or early Tindersticks/Crime & the City Solution), iLIKETRAINS Progress*Reform is excellent, epic and personal, drowning in pathos and a kitchen sink drama at the same time. Highly recommended, try and see them live if you get the chance.
