I borrowed this CD on a whim recently, and have discovered just how much fun most of it is. But let me warn you, this is like nothing else you've ever heard before.
This is a rock and roll orchestra Christmas CD. Don't know what I mean? Well, many of these tracks feature an orchestra backing up electric guitar, keyboard, and drums. And these aren't your parents' arrangements, either. The best example is "Christmas Eve/Sarjevo 12/24" which gives "Carol of the Bells" a heavy rock arrangement. And it is absolutely fun.
The disc is about half instrumental, and those are the best tracks by far. Another highlight is "A Mad Russian's Christmas" which includes themes from "The Nutcracker." But they aren't all hard rock ... Read More:

This album is close to perfection...
Remember when you were a child and you woke up on christmas morning?? They joy of the presents!!! Snow outside!! This cd takes you back to that time!! The pure joy of the music, the melody, the interplay of the voices.
You really feel cleaner after hearing this!
For one fleeting moment, you become what you used to be, perhaps even what you wished you could be.
I love xmas.
I love this album.. and if you give it a chance, so will you!

Hard rock. Christmas.
These simply don't seem to go together. After all, Christmas music is usually fluffy, syrupy stuff about decking the halls, trimming the tree, and spending time with your family, et cetera. They play it in malls, and after a few hundred chirrupy renditions of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," you're ready to gnaw the tinsel off the walls.
But Trans-Siberian Orchestra breaks all the rules of Christmas music. Producer Paul O'Neill and Jon Oliva teamed up to create this trilogy of hard-rock, orchestral Christmas albums, which bring back the splendour and beauty that every Christmas album should have, but few do.
The three albums -- "Christmas Eve and Other Stories," "The Christmas ... Read More:

If you enjoyed (I love it) Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds, this Concept album about Beethoven and a Deal with The Devil might interest you - If like me you are also a devotee of Metallica's S&M metal/symphony crossover then approach with some caution. Decent production, excellent musicianship BUT too many of the songs just didnt cut it for me - Very little really "Heavy" Metal to be found here and the orchestral side sometimes lacks passion. This will perhaps appeal more to Meatloaf fans than say, Metallica fans as it is more Rock-Opera than Symphonic Metal. If you like the idea of this BUT are looking for much heavier and epic music featuring REAL orchestral arrangements id recommend:
Metallica-S&M
Nightwish-Once,Dark Passion ... Read More:
