How could anyone follow the "Spellbound" album of the previous year? With some difficulty i'd imagine! Here the Tygers ( in classic line up mode ) take a solid stab at it though, making it sound effortless as they plough manfully out of the remains of the NWOBHM. Although it lacks the consistent quality of the tracks on Spellbound, it offers a much more punky and raw sound ( which the band later said sounded like it was recorded in a tin can! ). Album highlights include the fist pumping, air guitaring anthem "do it good" , "love dont stay" one of the finest potential metal singles ever, the super sleazy, Alex Harvey-esque "never satisfied", the twin guitar assualt of "running out of time" and album closer "raised on rock" The album is ... The Cage was very much a turning point for the Tygers and was a brave move to a more melodic popular brand of rock. I think it worked. The album is very versatile waving from all out rock to more melodic "pop rock", with every track delivered in a finesse polished sound. Some Tygers fans are not keen on this album as it signalled the end of what was the classic "Spellbound" sound. But no one can argue the songs here are well written, well delivered and excellently produced. The Cage is a fine 80's rock album.

I remember purchasing this when it came out (I was 16 at the time)and I have never grown tired of it. Gangland kicks things off like a puch in the face and the other songs do not dissapoint. Mirror is the balad and Jon Deveril proves that he has one of the best Rock Voices bar none. Tyger Bay, Silver and Gold and Don't stop by all stand out as classics. At the same time other bands were producing good music, but these bands were left eating dust by the Tygers they were years ahead of there time. An undiscovered classic for many of you go and buy it and you will realise why. It can still wipe the floor with anything produced recentley.

Not a cats whisker near what the Tygers brand of metal is about, but... this isn't bad. Jon deverill sings his heart out to air play rock with catchy melodies and background oooh and ahhhhh's.
A few fillers here but equally some good rock and riffs. Not bad!
