I am a fan of Psyence Fiction and Never Never Land, not least because of their blend of hip hop, breakbeat and rock. War Stories is more of a straightforward guitar rock-based album vaguely reminiscent of Primal Scream, but it contains several memorable tracks so, whilst I don't rate this as highly as their previous work (because of the abandonment of beats and breaks), I like it all the same. Stand out tracks are "Chemistry" and "Burn My Shadow". Talking of which, please bring back DJ Shadow for the next effort!

Could only sum up this album with that one word. Bought it on the basis of it being the only thom yorke-related music i didnt own and i wasn't disappointed. Being slightly biased i think 'rabbit in your headlights' is the best track on there, though slightly disturbing when accompanied by the strange promotional video for the single. Richard Ashcroft-endorsed 'lonely soul' is another standout as he proves he can lend his voice to any style of music. For further proof check out 'the test' with the chemical brothers!Anyone a fan of the top ten smash hit (note the sarcasm) 'be there' (feat ian brown) would not be disappointed by purchasing this album! Rocking in places ('nursey rhyme'), hip hop/dance in others ('main title theme') and ... Read More:

The tracklist Amazon currently lists is wrong. The correct tracklist is:
1. Burn My Shadow radio edit
2. Burn My Shadow album version
3. Burn My Shadow UNKLE Surrender Sounds session #5
There is no track 4.
So if you've already got the "War Stories" album, then really you'd only be buying this single for track 3, UNKLE's own ten-minute-long electro remix. It's a good remix, another of UNKLE's studio epics, you wouldn't hear it in a club, but it alone doesn't justify the cost of this single.
There are a pile of other remixes of "Burn My Shadow", for example the Radio Slave remix, the Junkie XL mix, the Slam mix and the Dan F remix, which aren't included on this single- which makes it a bit of a ... Read More:

The surprising duo of Thom Yorke and unkle creates a subtle and yet powerful blend of talent with comes together to produce an almost hypnotising track. The piano creates a sense of surreality whilst the underlying beat provides a contrast which compliments the vocals and piano. Once again Thom Yorkes haunting voice captures and frees the imagination in an excellent compostion.

There are some decent tracks on this album but there's also a few to pad out the album,my main gripe is that the actual recording quality is poor, this is unusual for a "band" like Unkle, still if you love Unkle like myself you could do worst, let's hope the next album is better recorded.

Bought this CD a while back and apart from the really irritating 'e-e-e-e-essential' sample placed at moments that kinda spoil its fluency was very pleased with my purchase . Then I discovered the CD 'Do Androids Dream of Electro Beats' also by Unkle . My advice to anyone wishing to buy this who doesn't own 'Androids' is to give this a miss and try and get Andoids because firstly the mixing is tighter , secondly the tune selection is greater , thirdly its better value for money and fourthly ...... i could go on and on . The only advantage this package has is that the one or two tracks this one has that Androids doesnt are storming , plus Androids is a little more tricky to source .
