First off, I would like to say that I love Bruce Parry and his causes and I am pleased at least the CD cost is going to good use.
However, I do like the tribal chanting - but HATE the accompanying soundtrack to it - which is techno/trancey. I was expecting it to be more in tune with the tribal chanting. Not my cup of tea, sorry Bruce - but still love you. Not to worry, it is my dad's birthday at end of November so I shall pan it off to him as a present.

it is not even good to fall asleep with. Got on my nerves and never listen to it since. There are alot better albums of prominent composers...
While maybe not the `Ultimate' Christmas Album from Classic FM - they have for many years released a new festive selection and I'm sure this won't be the last - this is certainly one of the most innovative thanks to its combination of traditional classical hymns and a selection of familiar festive music arranged jazz style, one disc being dedicated to each style of music.
The `jazzing up' of Christmas hits is nothing new to the pop music world, and certainly forms part of the recording repertoire of most jazz musicians, but it's rarer to find a combination of the two on one album release of greatest hits, and in this case some truly great, all American, artists. Names like Louis Armstrong, Eartha Kitt, Oscar Peterson, Ella ... Read More:

This cd set is brilliant value for money. All your favourite Christmas classics, and a few you may not have heard. This is the kind of Christmas music I grew up listening to at my grandparents house, sitting around the tree drinking cocoa, and the kind of festive music I'd like my own kids to grow up listening to! Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Wizzard, Slade, Cliff Richards, etc., but they can't hold a candle to likes of Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, and Frank Sinatra. I would recommend this set for anyone who wants an old-fashioned Christmas :)

A collection of classic tracks from the last 40 years as covered by many current rock & pop 'darlings'. Sounds great, right?!
Sadly, this fails to push any of the right buttons. You'll find a mixture of drab, straight, unimaginative takes on 90s pop/rock (Mutya's version of Fast Car, Editors version of Lullaby) and some messy, angry, kiddy-tantrum versions of 80s classics (Gossip do 'Careless Whisper', Pigeon Detectives do 'The Power of Love'). Murdered classics from the 70s and late 60s are also in abundance, with The Feeling, McFly and The Kaiser Chiefs all doing their worst.
If sounds like your bag, then go right ahead. Personally I'd rather listen to a pneumatic drill for two hours. Absolutely dire.

this is the best thing i've bought off amazon for a while. i love it, and you will too. i am too young to remember most of these tunes, except for the really famous ones like doctor who but i have this cd in the car and it is such fun to think, 'that sounds like it has to be, oh i don't know, the royal wedding theme', and then find out it is actually 'magic carpet ride' or something.
i really really enjoy listening to this and i would recommend it to everyone. some of these pieces are really,,,,,, beautiful.
