I agree with Mr Barber that this is a great selection but how can any 60's album not include virtually any of the iconic british bands of the era? I could not count for certain 10 brit bands on these 5 discs.

Strictly Ballroom Dancing

As for the "50 Ballroom Favourites" CD ..............
At first listening I was impressed by the quality of reproduction, correct tempi, lack of vocals and rhythms being grouped. However, as a '10 dance dancer' I found that the music did not get my foot tapping and make me want to dance. In fact the slower tempi are quite sleep-inducing. On listening closer, the reason for this is that there is heavy use of strings and lack of brass instruments in most of the tracks. The ones with brass are a bit livelier. There is also a lack of "attack" to the music as if the players are drowsing off - mostly noticeable in the Latin American rhythms which need to be more staccato.

The Greatest Songs From The Musicals

Most of the classical songs are great sung very well by talented singers, but don't expect the original artists from the stage shows as they're not on there. Some of the more modern songs weren't so great and We Will Rock You was played like a fanfare for HRH the Queen, that was a real let down, no hand clapping or headbanging, there are more electric guitars in Phantom!!!

If like orchestras this is for you, if you want songs from original cast members don't bother.

Can't say it is great..... I bought it for my hubby's 30th birthday to "try-and-see" which songs could be used for his party.

Many songs great for cocktails or gentle house-party, only about 9 dance songs that can be used for our party..... Evergreen album for sure when I have other parties I guess? Good for keeping.

Classic FM Movies - The Ultimate Collection

The Classic FM `Movie Themes' 3 CD box sets appear on a annual basis. In 2006 we had `Classic FM at the Movies', in 2007 there was the `Sequel' and now we have the 2008 `Ultimate'.

The first and sequel sets were a good choice of music from popular films, the sequel making a particularly good buy because it consisted of tracks from a different selection of films than on the original.

The `Ultimate' title of this latest release implies that it's either the best one or the final one, but in my opinion it's neither. It's not the best for there is a considerable overlap with the music from the previous Classic FM Movie CDs, and it probably won't be the final one of its type thanks to the vast back catalogue of film ... Dreamgirls [Soundtrack]

I saw the film and really liked it, so I bought this. Unfortunately, on this version of the CD all of Jennifer Hudson's powerful songs are 'highlight' versions, so not the ones used in the film...The CD isn't bad, but it wasn't what I wanted...I am going to try the deluxe version.
