Hell

by: Venom

Release Date June 09, 2008
What can you about Venom that hasn't been said before, yeh they invented thrash, yeh it was fashionable to slag them off i.e they consistently topped Kerrang's worst band poll in their early years, the consisitent line up changes haven't helped either. When the original line up reformed in 97 I was delighted, when Resurrection came out I was a bit skeptic to say the least a Venom album without Abbadon!! My god what an album that was. Anyway following the slightly disapointing Metal Black, yeh it was good but it really could've been better, Hell sees Venom release a worthy album under the Venom monicker. Cronos's bass never sounded so evil & Rage is an exceptional guitarist who is the missing link that should have been in place on Metal Black, Screaming vocals, ... Read More:

Possessed (Remastered / Expanded)

by: Venom

Release Date February 26, 2008
The fire that Venom possessed in the first two (or three) albums here is lost as Venom churned out another album for the sake of keeping the band going. The music is average at best with the first few songs but then descends into a huge chunk of filler.

The production of this album leaves much to be desired. A thin guitar tone is overpowered by a sloppy bass and tired Cronos plodding his way through the cliche lyrics.

Essentially this is poor metal from a band about to suffer loss of vital member Mantas who was dissatisfied with the album's outcome.

Welcome To Hell (Remastered / Expanded)

by: Venom

Release Date February 26, 2008
After sampling 'In Legue with Satan' off the great lightnin' to the nations compliaton CD I imediatly bout the first 3 Venom albums and I have to say their debut is the best of the 3 and an absolute classic slab of metal!

Now everyone says Venom are notorious for bad production and they are right, but I have a feeling it was semi-diliberate to try and achieve the heaviest sound they could muster and it pays off, this is a brutal album and must of sounded like pure noise back in 1981(!).

The album opens up on a surprisingly weak song 'Sons of Satan' but dont let that put you off, the title track is a stonecold classic, so much that Iron Maiden completly ripped off the main riff for one of their best songs '2 minutes to midnight', compare it, ... Read More:

by: Venom

Release Date February 26, 2008
This is THE most extreme record Venom have ever released.Machine gun drumming, with the double bass drum predominant in the mix, this record sounds more up to date but at the same time is reminiscent of earlier Venom,if in the production values alone. The mix is purposely lo-fi for effect but can be compensated somewhat by adding a lot of upper treble.Chronos voice is in top form but very buried in the mix most of the time, and his bass playing reminds that of his live performances, trebley, almost guitar-like.Guitarrist Micky, who played in the excellent Calm Before The Storm 1984 lp plays some excellent and loud solos but is unfortunately not prominent enough in the mix the rest of the time. Most of the songs are very exciting but some others are a bit monotonous and flatter ... At War With Satan (Remastered / Expanded)

by: Venom

Release Date February 26, 2008
I first encountered this opus at a time when I was both young and impressionable, and at that time I was completely oblivious to the fact that Venom had a wry sense of humour which permeated pretty much everything they did. Hence, the leather bound gatefold sleeve (complete with burning inverted crucifix), scant information on the band and general subject matter, had a fairly profound effect at the time - and that was before I'd actually dared to play the thing. Coupled with this was the general view that Venom were `the worst band in the World' and the sense of trepidation was intense. So how does it, and did it, sound? The title track kicks off proceedings with a crack of thunder before the ominous drone of Cronos' bass leads into the first of many enormously memorable ... Read More:

The Court of Death

by: Venom

Release Date April 24, 2000
This is an incredible compilation of tracks from three albums by venoms third line up, which in my opinion is their best. This line up has Demolition Man on vocals and bass, and War Maniac on guitar as well as Mantas, and the quality of this instrumental playing is outstanding. The best tracks are from their two early 90's albums, "Temples of Ice" and "The Wastelands." The track opens with the excelent epic "Cursed", an Egyption style track, and then "Need to Kill", a Terminator inspired futuristic track. Both tracks are examples of quality heavy metal, with atmospheric symphesizers as well. Other key tracks, "Tribes", "Riddle of steel" and "Wolverine", are great, and the collection is very consistant with many ... Read More:
