This is THE most extreme record Venom have ever released.Machine gun drumming, with the double bass drum predominant in the mix, this record sounds more up to date but at the same time is reminiscent of earlier Venom,if in the production values alone. The mix is purposely lo-fi for effect but can be compensated somewhat by adding a lot of upper treble.Chronos voice is in top form but very buried in the mix most of the time, and his bass playing reminds that of his live performances, trebley, almost guitar-like.Guitarrist Micky, who played in the excellent Calm Before The Storm 1984 lp plays some excellent and loud solos but is unfortunately not prominent enough in the mix the rest of the time. Most of the songs are very exciting but some others ... 1992 third and last album of the Dolan era; Venom was dissolved after that only to regroup with their original lineup for the magnificent 1996's Cast In Stone.
This album is an impossible-to-get vinyl/cassette-release only. Those in possession of it just won't sell it. And the reason for that is maybe that is such a good record; simply the best from the Dolan era. Very epic, even MORE heavy instead of thrash metal oriented its predecessor Temples Of Ice. The keyboards and acoustic guitars that had shyly reared their tiny heads on that one are now massively present to great effect, the 2'30¨ atmospheric keyboard-only intro for the first album track being the most noticeable, ending with a cannon blast . The whole record is fast, evil and ... Read More:

Another release from the mighty Newcastle trio, though only Cronos remains from the original line-up and former american guitarrist Mykus (who had previously played in the excellent but underrated Calm Before The Storm album in '84) has been replaced by competent brit-colleague Rage. Excellent lyrics with a touch of realism addressing wars, the USA and other socio-political issues....in a very satanic manner BTW .
The album is less convincing than Metal Black, has yet MORE filler in it, and although production is better since it has more upper treble than MBlack and fortunately lacks the double kick-drum abuse of that album, now it's Cronos's bass guitar that ruined it all for me. He's improved his playing skills beyond belief and I ... Read More:
