It really is. The reverse of the CD comes with quotes from Lars Ulrich and Kerry King, stating how much Venom influenced Metallica and Slayer respectively. In 1979 in Newcastle, four Geordies hooked up and unleashed some of the most influential heavy metal ever written. This is called black metal - to me it sounds a lot more like thrash or speed metal (like early Megadeth or Metallica in the Kill Em All era) but you can instantly see why this band is held in such high regard. Every track here is of the highest quality - I really like Black Metal and Countess Bathory, but almost every track I like. This is well worth your cash. Buy it!

It should come as no surprise to anyone that even after twenty years Venom still refuse to go away, and this timely release shows why.
From the bludgeoning, scratchy roar of early works Welcome To Hell and Countess Bathory to the post-Cronos Prime Evil and the slashing cover of Judas Priest's Hell Bent For Metal, Venom show how they changed popular music forever. Countless bands, most notably Metallica and Slayer, drew heavily on Venom's insidious influence, but never themselves quite managed to capture the originals' malicious majesty.
Standout cuts on the album must be the opening and closing tracks, both taken from Venom's second and finest album, Black Metal.
An album that can't be recommended highly enough ... Read More:
