Saw Victoria on 'This Morning' & liked the sound of it.Love the 30s & 40s so was interested in hearing how she sounded.Victorias' voice is pretty average.I could hear The Puppini Sisters & Bette Midler in my head giving the songs that sassy edge that they needed. After listening to the album a few times I was singing along, but found myself wanting to jazz it up a bit more.A pleasant enough creation.

I was incredibly disappointed with this CD......I'd been looking forwards to it arriving and put it on straight away in the car and it was such a let down.
I found her voice whiny and nasaly and actually very annoying.
Having seen her interviewed on TV she comes across as a very sweet girl with great charm but I feel that it doesn't come across in her voice or the music.
There was no soul or depth to any of the songs......... experience of life is lacking here...... you listen to someone like Edith Piaf, Billy Holliday or Ella Fitzgerald and your hooked, you can tell they've been through a lot and they draw you in....
To me this sounded like a very young inexperienced girl bouncing her way through song after ... Read More:

Away with revisionist deviationism, say I. For most of my life Beecham's has been regarded as the Boheme to end all Bohemes, and I maintain resolutely that it still is that, for all the advances in recording techniques since 1956. The digital remastering dates from as recently as 2002, but Beecham used to obtain very good technical quality of sound for his day, and for the usual reason that he demanded it and there was no use in arguing. I also offer the following consideration as regards sound-quality - when it is a matter of large forces, say a symphony orchestra let alone the battalions necessary for grand opera, the nature of the sound that can be offered to us in our sitting-rooms simply cannot resemble other than distantly their real sound in the ... Now let's get this straight-I know Mrs Beckham hasn't got a very good voice, but at the same time she was given the opportunity to make an album and she loves singing, so why should she be criticised for that-and let's face it it did make the top ten in the UK albums chart, which is an impressive achievement. I listened to the album without (much) prejudice and was impressed by the pleasant, easy-listening pop I discovered:
1.Not Such An Innocent Girl-A great first single, definitely the catchiest song here. 8/10
2.Mind Of It's Own-I love the way Victoria talks her way through this song. 8/10
3.That Kind Of Girl-The first slightly weaker track, having said that its pleasant enough. 6/10
4.Like That-This has really grown on ... Read More:

This is a delightful CD and I can't do more than echo the previous reviewer.
The voice as an instrument is beautifully used and portrayed. Well worth buying just to hear.
The only minor problem is that this CD is mono not stereo. You may find that (as I did) that disconnecting one loudspeaker provides a much more satisfactory listen.
Your amp may have a balance control which will save you the bother of messing with speaker wires.

The Cambridge Singers have managed to produce one of the most sublime, peaceful yet uplifting choral CDs of recent years.
The first disc alone would be worth the very reasonable asking price for this CD, chock full of wonderful harmonies that wrap themselves around each other leading even the most harrassed of individuals to calm by the end of a handful of tracks.
But it is the second disc which excited me most. I fondly remember singing compline each Thursday night in my college chapel as a student by candle-light. Whilst this disc can't quite bring to life the smell of gently burning wax, it can still induce the same effect as singing compline itself - a prayerful, devotional and restful way to end the day. This is another stunning peformance from Gardiner and the Montiverdi Choir. I would rank it marginally below their other recent album 'Santiago a Cappella' only because one or two of the tracks get slightly muddy due to excessive reverb. Curiously the first 'Dum pater familias' suffers from this defect.
Apart from that there are, as we may expect, some truly heart-stopping performances. The performance of Morales 'Parce mihi Domine' is simply outstanding, with the final line 'et si mane me quaesiseris, non subsistam' delivered with the full strangeness and mystery of the ancient text. The musical simplicity is wonderfully handled by Gardiner.
More conventionally beautiful is the 'Agnus Dei' from the Codex Callixtinus. Once again, simplicity ... Read More:
