Vieux sensibly uses all his connections to assemble some excellent musicians to play throughout this irrepressably vibrant album. I bought it when i saw how good the reviews were, and the fact that the great Toumani Diabate is featured, but couldn't expect it to be THIS good. Simultaneously uplifting and thoughtful, and employing a real mixture of traditional and contemporary African styles, as someone writes elsewhere it's an excellent introduction to what's coming out of Africa, and Mali in particular, these days. |
