. Guiding Starby: Vusi Mahlasela Release Date October 08, 2007 I had never heard of Vusi until I attended a Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert where he was the 'support'. I was knocked out by the power of his voice, the depth of his words and the warmth of this man. Guiding Star was no disappointment either - it is a wonderful album, in a variety of languages but even when the meaning is beyond my understanding, the sound is wonderful. I really recommend it to anyone who has an interest in things African, in issues of Peace & Justice, fans of Ladysmith Black Mambazo - in fact anyone with an open enquiring mind and a readiness to explore something new. |

Luckily it had sound samples, otherwise I would have passed it over! WELL...When I played it the first time I was absolutely blown away, what a fantastic album. DON'T HESITATE TO BUY THIS ALBUM, THERE ISN'T A DUFF TRACK ON IT! TRUST ME YOU'LL LOVE IT..IF YOU DON'T, YOU'VE GOT NO SOUL !! What more can I say. |

He sings in English, Sotho and Zulu assisted by some of the country’s greatest musicians like the Soweto String Quartet, Victor Msondo on bass, Ian Herman on drums and percussion, Louis Mhlanga on lead and rhythm guitar, Bruce Cassidy on trumpet, Lloyd Ross on mandolin and guitar and Lloyd Martin on additional percussion. The beautiful backing vocals are by Caroline and Thandi Masemola, Gloria Bosman and Constance Mahlo.
