"Sundirtwater" is the fifth album from The Waifs, a folk-rock band from Western Australia. Their resume is fairly impressive, with their double-platinum fourth album "Up All Night", and a tour with Bob Dylan both in Australia and North America. "Sundirtwater" is a fine addition to their discography as well, with a title track which has a jazzy groove which is as addictive as anything I have heard recently. There are also a dozen other tracks which may not have the same initial draw as "Sundirtwater", but all of which hold their own with repeated listening.

Thank you to the other reviewers who recommended this superb double LP. The 'live' recordings capture the spirit and enthusiasm of this band and their music. They don't struggle to be folk, pop or country as so many others do - they simply produce great music that falls into just one category - brilliant.

The Waifs most recent and most sophisticated album.
Hard to classify (country? folk? bit of both but neither alone) this is a great album. Hear them live and they're even better (check out their live album, 'A brief history')
My favourite band of the moment. Takes a while to get into this stuff but once you do it'll stick in your head in the best possible way...

I first heard the Waifs when they supported a Billy Bragg tour in the UK a few years back. They really took my breath away - the mixture of really good musicianship, great melodies and captivating lyrics, combined with a raw Aussie feel and down to earth approach, made me order all of their albums in one go. At the time, this was/is the strongest one.
There isn't one dud track on the CD and some real stand out ones (e.g. without you, the haircut). Add in some decent politics (lies) and its a worthwhile investment.
I was going to describe them as a cross between Australian folk and country, but I don't know much about either of those and so might be misleading. Basically, if you like decent music, clever lyrics ... Read More:
