One time Bluesbreaker and Canned Heat man, Walter Trout has been firing out solo albums for a long time now, but they've always felt a bit incomplete to me. So, it came as a particular delight to sit down with the new one, and find myself hitting the repeat button when it came to an end. For this might just be the best album of his career.
From the opening, autobiographical, 'Welcome To The Human Race' onwards, it's a constantly unfolding pleasure. It's also the album that sees him straying further away from his Blues rock roots, something that may find a few old time fans drifting away. Even I had a bit of trouble with 'The Next Big Thing', a 1968 Beatles style radio rocker. But when he comes up with songs as inspired as the British ... Read More:

Many years had passed , more than 10 , I found myself in November 2006 in a crowded pub venue in Sheffield wondering how Walter Trout was faring ; remembering even longer back and John Mayall with yet another guitar man .
Some things pass all understanding ; let's just say that I enjoyed that gig, and not from nostalgia . It was as fresh as first hearing . Guitarists know what Trout is ; the wider public probably has heard of Clapton. Let's just say that sometimes he wishes he could play with the verve and optimism that Trout and Mayall still do , in little gigs , like young men , just because you have to , and it's who you are.
This CD is that good. Just a group of people playing the music as it comes , in one take . But ... Read More:

I've only ever seen Walter Trout band playing live, and decided to plump for this being my first album purchas of theirs...
What can a say - six songs in listening and very impressed by the quality of the songs, guitar playing, keyboards, drums and bass.
Release Date August 31, 1999
This is searing hot, blistering rock blues from perhaps the greatest guitarist playing this type of music in the world today. It is relentless high energy though never samey or tiring, it will have you rocking from beginning to end. Highly recommended. Buy it if you don't have it and listen to how the guitar can be but is rarely heard to be played. GREAT STUFF!!!
Release Date October 21, 1991
After two decades as a side man for the likes of John Mayall and John Lee Hooker, Walter Trout finally signed a recording contract of his own. His early albums, including this one, were distributed only in Europe and not in his native America. Trout has said in interviews that he feels that he could have done a better job on them but I cannot agree with him. This album approaches perfection as an exposition of magnificent electric blues.
The CD, contains eleven tracks, including one bonus track, of the most powerful blues rock that I have ever heard. The opening track, "Prisoner of a Dream" is one of my favourite electric blues/rock songs of all time. It combines great guitar solos and a strong bass line all topped with terrific vocals ... Well i am afraid i cannot agree with the other previous reviews of this c.d. I find this very average. I have listened to this on many occasions and quite honestly his guitar style gets on my nerves after a few tracks.Yes he can play fast but he needs to learn how to slow down and phrase his music. Compared to S.R.V., Hendrix, Johnny Winter,Robben Ford,Rory Gallagher etc, i find him second rate. But this is only my opinion, and remember music is a very personal experience.

WT has the kind of guitar skills you would die for. After a first chance hearing on a mates Walkman, I came to admire this guy like I admire Hendrix or Gary Moore or Neil Young. He is a classic R&B player with great vocals to go along with it. I would recomend this album as I would any of his albums, as a must buy. At the very least hear it and see what you been missing! I refuse to rate any of the tracks as I am sure if you like one then you will like em all.
