I have to say I bought this cd speculatively, perhaps as a way of reviving a jaded record collection, and I have loved every minute of it. I say it is contemporary blues but in each track you can almost feel Watermelon Slim reach back into an older, established tradition. It remains rooted in the delta and pays homage to influences such as Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf while having its own distinctive, up to date voice. What it may lack in the polish of other recent,and younger, blues players is made up for by the sheer gusto and musicianship on display, from the slow blues of Devil's Cadillac to the frenzied humour of Check Writing Woman. The musicianship, Watermelon SLim play a truly vibrant harmonica and slide guitar, is excellent and done ... Read More:
