With a talent like Orbit's, surely he could have done something to create a modern mood in these classic tunes. The arrangements add nothing to the music, reducing them to nothing more than banal elevator dross.
Very dissapointing, dispite trying to find a glimmer of positivity.
Release Date December 06, 1999
Like a previous reviewer, I first heard this on a game called "Homeworld" (I recommend that too) and loved it. It's been years since I heard it (after never finding it) and recently it's been played a lot. It was the song behind one of the figure skaters in the Winter Olympics, and on Weebl and Bob in one of the latest episodes.
It really sticks in your mind, a very emotional piece.

I initially bought this cd set to do a project on T.V. music. But it has become a favouite of mine. Some of the finest pieces of music are contained on these 2 discs. The Guiness advert is a personal favourite as is the Karl Orff tune. The music is so powerful, so inspirational. If you enjoy this sort of music you'll love these cd's, and even if you dont there are still tunes that you can relate to because of their prestige in world music.

This eagerly awaited release is a mixed bag, to be fair. Some tracks could've easily come out of Strange Cargo (mainly the vocal ones tracks 5-7 & 10) whilst some are extremely ambient and are more in line with Electric Chamber/Pieces in A Modern Style (not the remixed versions!). No crunchy beats dominate, in fact the first 4 tracks drift by pleasantly but unexcitedly. The focus on programming, occasionally interspersed with slightly tired Orbit sounds (the ones he always uses) is sometimes a little bland - but amiable enough.
Reviewers are split re track 5, Spiral, with Sugarbabes (and Keenan) vocals. In fairness it's not a bad track atall, but oddly positioned on the album. As Laurie Mayer's vocal contributions are quite ... Read More:

Can't buy this in USA. I swear we have such a provincial and limited scope of awareness in this country. Anyway, easy enough to pop over here and buy it.
This album is very refined and sublime. It slowly grew on me for about a year, then sort of leveled off to a still very high appreciation level. The masterful craftsmanship and studio acuity serve to puctuate the quality of the art.

This is an amazing album.. starting with the wonderful Russell Watson - it just gets better and better.. I cant stop listening to it.. fresh, exciting mix of old and new.. a must for an music collection

Basically, this album does what it says on the tin; it's a collection of short classical pieces that are soothing on the ear. So far, so common. But what I enjoyed particularly about this album was the eclectic nature of some of the pieces, particularly the inclusion of Izzy's "Going Home" and Batt's "Love in Slow Motion".
Both CDs offer a good mix of the old and well loved (e.g. Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze"), and newer, and perhaps less familiar pieces. And I can't be the only Harry Potter fan pleased to find John Williams's score here!
All in all, I found this to be an enjoyable and well put together compilation, and I would recommend it if you are looking for a chillout CD that is slightly out of the ordinary.

Overshadowed at the time of release by the massive Ferry Corsten remix of album lead off single Barber's Adagio For Strings, this album is definitely worth revisiting now. Orbit provides us with a tastefully fresh take on 11 well-known classical pieces. Keep an open mind and you will be pleasantly rewarded. Perfect for chilling out to.

How this album got 5 stars? beats me completely. This is mediocre music at best, with clean sound arrangements perhaps but cruelly lacking inspiration. Melodies are flat, tracks all sound the same and the sound itself is a poor re-rendition of electronica/ambient sounds of the beginning of the 90s. I put 2 stars just because 1 star would be "I hate it", and that cannot qualify as this soporific collection merely leaves me totally indifferent. I bought it partly based on the Amazon rating (will teach me) and partly because I didn't know what this famous William Orbit was doing by himself: well, not much, and to be frank I wouldn't be worse of not knowing...
