The Very Best of Woody Guthrie

Woody Guthrie has inspired so many artists, it would be remiss to not have him in your collection. The recordings are a little dated, but it takes nothing away from the rawness of the music and the story telling in the lyrics. You can't help but be reminded of 'The Grapes of Wrath' when you listen to this album and you can hear Dylan, Springsteen and Seeger have been influenced by this artist more than any other when they perform their folk and blues music. This is not always an easy listen, but it is always a rewarding one!

Some Folk

I bought this to add to my modest Guthrie collection, and it is by far the most quality comprhensive compilation that I've found. it has all the dust bowl ballads as well as all the most well known tunes, as well as a good selection of Leadbelly/Alamanc singers/Ciso collaborations too and so acts as a really good overview and, to be honest, unless you are a fanantic you don't need much more (though of course you should become a fanatic and find out much more...!).

If you want some woody guthrie, llok no further!

This Machine Kills Fascists

Songs to Grow on for Mother & Child

This is a CD that was fairly disappointing when I first listened to it on my own, as it just seemed like country music (which I do not listen to all all). However, once I started listening to it with my year old baby (dancing with her in my arms, or on floor), singing the rhythmic verses before she falls asleep, or just as a sing-along (with other friends and their pre-school children) it is wonderful.
