Never meant to be taken seriously, the Wurzels have nevertheless proved their longevity by keeping themselves busy making music over a period of more than forty years. For much of the time, they have been content to play local venues in Bristol and Somerset, but they have made an impact nationally (with a British number one hit) and internationally (with the same song becoming a Canadian number one hit). They actually scored hits with five different songs in the British charts. A re-mix of their biggest hit also charted. Wurzel music is difficult to classify. British stores such as HMV and Zavvi generally put it on the easy listening shelves, but I would say that the main influence is folk. The Wurzels like to call their music Scrumpy and Western, ... Not a bad CD. But The Wurzels seem to have jazzed up some of the songs, bit of a disco beat. My 7 year old thought they were good to dance to. Having said that they do sound good, but not what true Wurzel fans might expect. Some of the song I remember Adge Cutler singing, and thought Pete Budd's versions wern't as good. He seemed to be trying to sing them in Adge's style & personally thought that didn't work. If you prefer the Wurzels now then you will probably enjoy this CD. Fans of the older stuff, namly Adge, may not.

Fantastic. If you're into the early true Wurzels, namely Adge then this is one for your collection. Have a lot of Wurzels Cd's and there were songs on here I'd not come across before.

Here we see (or rather hear) that The Wurzels still have what it takes to play and write some excellent top class jaunty tracks to get yer toes a’tappin’, sit back and relax with a favourite beverage (preferably cider) and enjoy. I can imagine this will be an excellent CD to listen to in the summer months. 2004's ‘A Taste of the West’ is comprised of 12 tracks, mainly old re-done Wurzels classics such as ‘Pill Pill’ and a personal favourite ‘The Charlton Mackrell Jug Band’ and a couple of new’uns like the superb ‘Rock around the A38’ to whet the appetite for some new Wurzels music.
Another top quality slice of light hearted West country folk as the genre label ‘comedy’ ... Read More:

Pure class-the sorely forgotten Wurzels are back and at their best. Not only are they doing their bit for UK farming they have also managed to make a great track sound even better. Get a pint of cider on the go, stick on that gingham shirt and enjoy.
