I have seen the YJ's live in a number of occasions in London and they are as brilliant as in this cd/DVD package. I bought 2 of these, just in case one of them is accidentally scratched !!!! More please !

Greenhouse is Yellowjackets' Heavy Weather. After several years and albums searching for the right line-up and sound, it all seems to fall into place here. The departure of Sanborn clone Marc Russo on sax led to the inspired choice of Bob Mintzer as replacement and he certainly makes his mark here with some gutsy tenor and great Dolphy-like baritone on Steve Khan's composition 'Brown Zone'.

The presence of ECM engineer Jan Erik Kongshaug alerts one to the fact that this is a very unusual kind of GRP album. Indeed, there is a lovely, panoramic ambience to the whole record. A large orchestra arranged by Vince Mendoza graces several tracks, creating a very moving counterpoint to Russell Ferrante's ecstatic, increasingly Keith Jarrett ... Read More:

The Yellowjackets are Bob Mintzer (tenor and soprano saxophones), Russell Ferrante (piano, synths), Jimmy Haslip (bass, synth) and Marcus Baylor (drums). They are joined for one track (The first Noel) by singer Jean Baylor, wife of Marcus. The pictures confuse me - most show Santa in a desert landscape, while the group picture shows Santa surrounded by four people dressed in black with nobody in a yellow jacket. Still, it's the music that counts and the performances here are top-notch.

The titles are all familiar except the title track while the overall sound is much as you would expect from a jazz quartet - however, some of the tunes are arranged slightly differently so there are a few surprises in store. Slient night appears twice, ... Read More:
