Superabundance

I've really fallen in love with this album after repeated listens. As many reviewers have said, it's very much an album of two halves with the first 6 tracks bearing more similarity to the post-punk influenced Voices of Animals and Men. Higlights include the wonderfully barmy Terra Firma and Light Switch both of which beneift from great basslines by Tom "House of Lords" Dartnall.

The second half of the album contains several psychedlia influenced songs like Mummy Light The Fire and Rue The Days and the much poppier Dyed In The Wool. The whole album shows off the bands impressive songwriting which in my mind is a league higher than their contemporaries like Foals who are getting more attention.

Voices of Animals and Men

Initialy it struck me as good album that had a few standout tunes on it. But the more I listened to it the more it consumed me. It's an awsome album. And unlike a lot of 'new' music I dont seem to get bored with it.

It's probably my favourite album of the last 12 months.

It's punky, quirky, balsy, inteligent but uncomplicated.

A real gem.

Not a lot of point describing the tunes as you can go check em out on you tube.

I had heard a couple of their singles and thought I would give the album a try. The first couple of listens I wasn't that convinced abut after a couple of listens more it really started to grow on me. Their style takes a bit of getting used to, being a bit shouty with jerky guitars and all that. Still they managed to get some good song on there with some clever word play and catchy tunes. If you want a better dressed version of the Fall or a slightly more mature Art Brut then give them a try.

The Young Knives Are Dead... and Some

This album is a combination of The Young Knives' first EP (The Young Knives Are Dead) and a collection of B-sides from the early days. These recordings predate the first album - Voices of Animals and Men.

Young Knives are one of the most refreshing bands around, and to dismiss them out of hand (as Stevo-1 did) is unfair. I have been a fan for a long time (which might explain the slight bias in this review) and used to see them playing these songs in clubs in Oxford many years ago. They have the energy of Britpop, but a sound which is still fresh and all their own.

Stand-out tracks on this album include electro-indie rocker 'Rollerskater', the ballad 'English Rose' and Beefheart-like Working Hands.

The Young Knives Are Dead

I had the privilige of seeing this band live at the truck festival yesterday and i have to say they were brilliant,i bought this e.p straight after and its well worth listening to. They offer something different to the indie scene and i can see them becoming a big success when their album is released in august. I reccomend getting to one of their gigs if they're playing near you as they are brilliant entertainers as well as great performers. Im now looking forward to hearing their album.

Here Comes the Rumour Mill

Here Comes The Rumour Mill is brilliant! If you like the arctic monkeys, we are scientists, the kooks e.t.c. It's a really catchy song with a great chorus....i heard it played acousticly at sxsw and it was really good!

I have no idea who's listening to The Young Knives. It seems they're marketed to the same kids who think Futureheads and other bands starting with 'The' nowadays are the be all and end all. However, Knives' most airable songs tend to be poking fun at that same crowd (see 'She's Attracted To' for a hilarious sendup of vicious chuckleheads who fight with their girlfriends' parents...even funnier in the video).
When I try to recommend this band, or either of their proper albums, to people, I don't know what to tell them. From track to track, their sound changes so completely it's hard to base a recommendation on any single song. I bought the album on the merits of 'Another Hollow Line,' and I've never been so happy a band didn't just sound like the single I loved. Comparisons ... Read More:
